Submitted by: Sandi Gorin http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00002.html#0000404 Additional Comments: Notes: In the older days of churches there were several steps taken if there was a disagreement among the members. First, men (or women as is the case here) were sent to the individual to cite them to attend the next meeting and present their side of the charge. This could take some time since the services were held once a month. If a settlement could not be reached, the church could call for "helps" from other churches of the same type. The church would then send their pastor and/or several deacons and they would have a meeting to try to solve the "difficulty." In the instances above, the charge was against a pastor and his wife was coming to his defense. Some of the ladies of the church got involved and it took quite a while to settle things. During this time, the church appears to have had no pastor and were trying to settle things on their own and it was getting them nowhere.
