Versailles.Christian-Woodford.CHURCH VERSAILLES CHRISTIAN CHURCH ESTABLISHED IN 1830's - RECORDS SHOW The early records of the Versailles Christian church were lost many years ago, but is is known that a church of that denomination existed here as early as 1835. In that year Elder John T. Johnson held a revival that resulted in 117 additions to the church. Alexander Campbell first visited Versailles in 1823, but is is not known whether a church existed here at that time. In 1852 a lot was purchased by Samuel Nuckols, Dr. B. Cloak and B.F. Duval, trustees. In August, 1853, a new house of worship was formally opened. The building was erected by Alexander Campbell. At a semi-centennial celebration held in 1903, four persons were present who had heard Elder Campbell's dedicatory address in 1853. They were: B. F. Hall, who was related to the Ball family of Woodford county; Dr. A. Adams, who married a widow, Mrs. Jesse, of Versailles and died at Lancaster; Curtis Smith, Newton Payne, William Norton, Elisha Pinkerton, T. N. Gaines, John I. Rogers, C. C. Moore, T. J. Gore, T. N. Arnold, A. McChesney, W. L. Stanley, A. Crenshaw, J. B. McGinn, Wallace C. Tharp, J. J. Darsie and W. L.
