She has been taking them from her book of Monroe Co Vital Statistics, which is a transcription of the originals by Eva Coe Peden. This book is very useful, but does contain transcription errors by Ms Peden. Most errors are simply mistakes in reading the handwriting in the original documents. There is another problem that can be quite misleading if you are not aware of it. The majority of the deaths recorded occurred in the period 1852-1860. There are a few pages from the years 1874-1878 and perhaps 30 deaths from 1894 and 45 deaths from 1906-07. In her transcription, Ms Peden covered the 1852-1860 records, but seems to have missed the 1874-1878 deaths. She does have a bit more than half of the 1906-07 deaths, but has only one 1894 death listed. Now here is the problem. Ms Peden actually listed almost all the 1894 deaths, but, except for the one, incorrectly listed the year as 1854. For example, she states that James A Spear died on 29 Oct 1854. The "29 Oct" part is correct, but the original records show 1894 as the date. Below is a list of the people whose death year should be 1894, but is listed as 1854 by Ms Peden: Alley, Henrietta Key, Lonzo Bradley, Wm Marshall, E K B Britt, M E Proffitt, J D Burks, B B Robinson, A E Combs, Effie Roddy, U S Dickerson, Virgil Simmons, T A Emberton, C K Spear, S A Flippin, Susan M Spear, James A Ford, A L Strode, Sis Gearlds, L J Temple, Sally Gentry, L A Tyree, J S Gibson, M J Wax, I M Gum, J S Wood, E S Gum, Mary York, Mary B Jackson, Ara E I might comment that I first became aware of this problem when I noticed that Ms Peden gave I M (Martha) Wax an 1854 death date. Martha was the daughter of Henry and Julie Hagan Wax and it is commonly known that she was born and died in 1894. Doug Moore This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/kyfiles/
