F. Clark Riley PAYNE age 40, of Myers, died Wednesday morning, at 2o'clock as the result of a blow received in the head Monday morning, during an altercation with W. F. CLARK, the Parks Ferry merchant W. D MYERS, John BUCHANNON, Tom VAUGHN, W.T. CLARK, and J. C. B. GILLISPIE were empaneled as a Coroner's Jury by Coroner HUTCHINGS, Wednesday. The Jury found that the deceased "came to his death, by reason of a blow with a stick, struck by W. F. CLARK." The trouble between the two men is said to have been the result of a quarrel over the payment for some corn, and occurred on the river bank, near the mouth of Cassiday Creek. PAYNE, it is claimed, was advancing on CLARK with a knife when CLARK struck him with a stick. PAYNE regained consciousness for about three hours. --------------------- Mr. W. F. Clark Is Dismissed At Examining Trial Held Wednesday Afternoon At the examining trial held before Justice J. T. CLAY Wednesday afternoon,, Mr. CLARK was dismissed the evidence proving conclusively that he struck PAYNE in self defense. ______________________________
