Submitted by Mary Lou Hudson Middlesboro Daily News, Middlesboro, KY April 5, 1921 Coal Plant In Harlan Is Destroyed by Dynamite Two Former Employees Pittsburgh Coal Company Injured - One Probably Fatal -- Loss $5,000 Beattyville, Ky., April 5 ---Two former employees were injured, one probably fatally, when the tipple house of the Harlan plant of the Pittsburgh Coal Co., was destroyed at midnight by dynamite. The property loss is estimated at $5,000. A long distance telephone report says the injured men are Earl Brock and a man named Tanner, both of whom quit the mine in February following a cut in wages. There is no explanation as to how the men came to be in the tipple house. Tanner is believed to be dying. ______________________________
