Submitted by Mary Lou Hudson Middlesboro Daily News, Middlesboro, KY Sept. 6, 1921 Items From The Court Ballard Hampton and Alva Nevils of Claiborne county, Tennessee, were arrested last night for transporting liquor into Middlesboro. A keg of liquor was taken over by the Middlesboro officers from these men before they had a chance to sell any of it. Both men are prominent citizens in Tennessee. They were taken to Pineville this morning by John Wilson to be brought before United States commissioner. H.E. Ball, Chief of police, said that the men would probably make bond this afternoon. "It is the high price at which liquor can be sold which is attractive to men who would otherwise not attempt to sell it." he said. Grover Williams, held for malicious shooting on this side of the Cumberland mountains, was tried this morning before County Judge Van Bebers and County Attorney Lee Patterson. He was held for circuit court in November on $1000 bond. Attorney John Howard represented the defendant. About 3:30 this afternoon two boys were taken into custody by officers on Cumberland avenue charged with taking some tools from a hardware store. ______________________________
