Turner, of Paris, KY, while escorting the wife of a hotel proprietor from a picture show at Hot Springs, Ark. Thursday night, was shot and instantly killed by the woman’s husband. Turner was the son of the late Jerry Turner, was formerly mail agent on the Frankfort & Paris R. R. A few weeks ago he made an assignment at paris, having failed as a confectioner. His wife, who was divorced, was formerly Miss Nellie Honey. While officers waited in an adjoining room with a warrant charging her with assault with intent to kill her husband, Mrs. L. W. McDaniels of Streator, IL drank carbolic acid, dying an hour later. What are believed to be the bones of Kentucky soldiers, killed in 1812 in the Raisin River massacre, were unearthed by excavators on the banks of the river near Toledo, OH. Micah Chrisman Saufley, circuit judge of 13th district, died suddenly at his home in Standford, Friday. He was 68 years old and was a First Lieutenant in the Confederate service under General John C. Breckinridge. Edward McDonick, 10, son of Martin McDonick, was drowned at Augusta. Wm. Purcell, drowned in Nolin river, near Elizabethtown, while bathing. W. J. Meyers, keeper of a shooting gallery, used his skill with a revolver with a tragic purpose at Chicago, shooting three members of his family through the head and taking his own life. Just four shots were fired, and four lives were snuffed out by Meyers’ unerring aim. Mrs. Judith Ellen Horton Foster, noted temperance lecturer, died in Washington following an operation. The body of Mrs. Henry Hall was found in the Ohio River at Catlettsburg, with a rope around her neck. When last seen the dead woman was at Huntington, WV and had with her $415 in cash. It is believed she was murdered, robbed and the body thrown in the river. Charles Alexander, one of Woodford county’s most prominent farmers died near Versailles Sunday. Bruce Buffington, 22, son of Prof. Buffington, formerly principal of the school at North Middletown was drowned at Des Moines, Iowa. Charles Ashurst, aged about 50 years, a former resident of Paris, and employee in the tin shop of January and Connell suicided at Oklahoma City. His wife died in Dallas Texas about a year before. His adopted daughter lives in Dallas. Clifford, of Sunrise and Mr. & Mrs. George Sandy of Cynthiana and was accompanied home by Mrs. Sandy. The second annual reunion of the Barnard VanDeren Society was held Wednesday, 10 August at the old VanDeren homestead on Twin Creek. Cynthiana Democrat 18 Aug 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 47 6 Pages Pg. 5 Col. 5 Died Mrs. Jennie Butterfield Smith, widow of William Smith, died rather suddenly at her home on Wilson Ave. in this city last Friday, 12 Aug. Buried in Battle Grove. She was born in Hamilton Co. OH on 10 Jan 1835 and was daughter of Sherebiah Butterfield, son of Jeremiah Butterfield, son of Nathaniel Butterfield, a soldier in the Revolutionary war from Washington Co. NY. He was a son of one of the five brothers who came from Butterfield Castle, Aberdeen, Scotland. Mrs. Smith graduated from College Hill, OH, in 1854. She married to William Smith of Harrison Co. KY in 1856. Mr. Smith died a few years ago. They had five children all surviving: Sherry B. Smith and Mrs. R. S. Haviland of this city; Fitzhugh Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs S. E. Clark of Gage, Oklahoma; Sterling B. Smith of this county. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. G. G. Bradford of Dayton, OH and Mrs. John T. Campbell, of Boston, Mass. A member of DAR. Mrs. Kate Allen died at Georgetown Friday. She was born 3 Jan 1827 in Harrison Co. the daughter of Richard and Frances Barnard, and had been a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church for more than half a century. She married Wright Allen in 1851, whom she survived about 15 years. Three daughters survive: Ms. C.M. Hanna, of Shelby Co.; Mrs. Jere L. Tarlton, of Fayette Co.; Mrs. R. D. Prewitt of Georgetown. Mrs. Henry Earlywine, wife of Dan Earlywine and mother of former postmaster J. L. Earlywine of Paris died at Asheville, NC where she had gone for the benefit of her health. Jerry Ferguson, aged 60, died at Ruddell’s Mills, Sunday. The sympathy of their friends goes out to Mr. & Mrs. Shelton Reed in the loss of their little son, Shelton Barnett Reed, whose death occurred 11 Aug. The little fellow was eight months old.
