Combs, the Midway blacksmith who several years ago rescued Attorney Richard Godson from a pit in which he had been overcome with gas, died at Lexington from typhoid fever. Hiram T. Pierce, formerly a leading citizen of Maysville, died at Dallas Texas, aged 54. Frank a. Lyon, Jr. mayor of Bearttyville and master commissioner of the Lee circuit court, died Wednesday of heart disease. Charles Q. Lineback, age 38, of Warsaw, KY, shot his wife, inflicting serious wounds, then fired a bullet into his brain, from which he died a few hours afterward. Buell Taylor, of Frankfort, sergeant-major of the Second Battalion, Second KY Infantry, died Sunday at Ft. Benj. Harrison, near Indianapolis, IN while on the operating table of the hospital. An anesthetic had been administered before preforming the operation for appendicitis, and his heart failed. He was 32 years old and unmarried. Cynthiana Democrat 22 Sep 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 52 6 Pages Pg. 1 Col. 5 Morningglory Miss Berthenia Fryman died at her home near here Wednesday, 14 Sep 1910 of typhoid fever. She was the last member of a large family. Her brother, Mrs. Alex Fryman, preceded her to the grave only a few weeks with the same dreadful disease. She was 93 and died in the house she was born in. Buried in Mt. Pleasant Cem. Cynthiana Democrat 22 Sep 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 52 6 Pages Pg. 2 Col. 2 Deaths Dr. Joseph Boyd died at a hospital at Oxford, OH, Saturday, 17 Sept from peritonitis. Burial in Battle Grove. Son of the late Judge Strother Boyd and Mrs. Lucinda Boyd. He was born in Cynthiana January 1863 one of six children. Four of them survive with the mother: Dr. Mary Boyd, Miss Frances Boyd, Montgomery W. Boyd, of this city; H. M. Boyd of Mexico. He married Miss Hattie Cook, daughter of Cyrus Cook of this city, in 1894. She died in October 1908. Mr. Thomas Lowery passed away at his home onRailroad ave, Monday, 19 Sep 1910, from infirmities of old age. He was 85 years old. He is survived by one son, John M. Lowery and one daughter, Mrs. J. B.’s Connolly, of Cincinnati. Buried in St. Edward’s Cem. He came to Cynthiana in 1854. His wife a Miss Kehoe, died about 12 years ago. Mr. Isaac Cummingham died at his home in Lexington Friday. While returning home this week from Covington, one of his horses stepped on and exploded a pistol cartridge. The ball struck the front part of the foot, encircled the hoof just above the shoe, and came out the calf, plowing a furrow in the foot. The horse is somewhat lame from the accident. – Falmouth Outlook Cynthiana Democrat 22 Sep 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 52 6 Pages Pg. 4 Col. 5 [Owenton Democrat] Died, Monday, 12 Sept. at his home near Owenton, C. J. Littrell, an old Confederate cavalryman of the 5th Kentucky. He was born in 1843; was raised in Gallatin and Owen and went at the age of 18 to the war, going out of Owen with Smith and soldiered over 13 states, serving two years and nine months, surrendering at the end of the war. He was with Gen. Morgan at the second battle of Cynthiana. Was once or twice in prison. He leaves a wife and two children. He was buried at IOOF Cem. (Owenton ?) Cynthiana Democrat 22 Sep 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 52 6 Pages Pg. 5 Col. 2 Miss Berthenia Fryman, who died in the Morningglory neighborhood, last Thursday, at the age of 93, very rarely left her home. She had never been to Cynthiana or Carlisle, both of which towns are in easy driving distance. She had never seen a railroad train. She never had a lamp in her house, nor a cook stove.
