Cobb swallowed carbolic acid while “playing doctor” and died immediately afterwards. C. B. Smith, bookkeeper for the Shelbyville, KY, Water and Light Co., suicided at his home in that city by shooting himself in the back of the head. He was 55 years old and a native of Bourbon Co. Eugene Lightfoot was killed at Morton’s Gap, KY in a peculiar manner. He was employed by a construction company on the revision of the new lies of the L. & N. and while carrying a railroad tie, slipped which was caused by a new pair of shoes he was wearing. The tie fell on his neck and fractured his skull. He died immediately. Mrs. Anna Brown Young, wife of D. N. Young, died at Mt. Sterling, aged 54. Laken Conkright, aged 53, stopped dead at his home on Slate Creek in Montgomery Co. Near Spring Lick, KY as Will Moore was riding a mule lightning struck a tree near by. The mule threw Mr. Moore and kicked him in the sides, killing him. At Carlisle, the grand jury reported an indictment against Luther Ham charged with the murder of Hargis King, the barber, who was found dead in his buggy several months ago. Mrs. Maggie Eckler is his mother who lives on East Bridge St. Cynthiana. Burial in Benson. He was born 29 July 1899 and died 30 Sept. 1910 of diptheria. Burial at Battle Grove. Mr. Samuel O. Ecklar, age 70 years and 6 months, died at his home near Breckinridge, Friday, 30 Sep 1910 from paralysis. Burial in family burying ground near Dry Ridge in Grant Co. Survived by his wife, Miss Louise Ecklar, his first cousin. They had no children. Member of Baptist church. Mrs. Lucy Prows, widow of J. L. Prows, died at her home in Covington, Sunday. She is survived by nine children. Burial in Battle Grove. Edward Settle, 49, proprietor of Settle Carriage Co. at Paris, died Saturday from double pneumonia. He was born in North Middletown. To Mr. & Mrs. John Ingles, a daughter. Cynthiana Democrat 6 Oct 1910 Thursday Vol. 63 No. 2 6 Pages Pg. 5 Col. 4 Marriages Handy – Sneed Mrs. William Torrence Handy issued cards yesterday morning announcing the marriage of her daughter, Nancy Brownson Handy, to Mr. John Boswell Sneed, at Chestnut Hall. The marriage was celebrated at eight o’clock. Rev. Dr. H. H. Sneed of Gulfport, MS, father of the groom was the clergyman. Mr. & Mrs. Sneed left immediately after the ceremony for Gulfport, where they will be at home to their friends after November first.
