Rogers, of Kansas City, MO, a pioneer minister of the Christian Church, now 83 years old, who is visiting his sister, Mrs. Lucinda Boyd, in Cynthiana, preached at the Christian Church at Indian Creek Sunday. Mr. Rogers preached a sermon oat the Indian Creek fifty-two years ago and on that occasion baptized twenty candidates. He stated that none of the class of twenty whom he had baptized on that occasion was present in the audience, and that there was only one present who attended the service there fifty-two years ago, Mr. Wesley Smith, a Mexican War veteran, now 86 years old, and is one of the only three survivors of the company of soldiers that went to the Mexican War from this county. Mr. Rogers is the son of the noted pioneer evangelist, the late, Rev. Samuel Rogers, who was associated with Alexander Campbell, “Racoon” John Smith, John Allen Gano and other pioneer leaders in the Christian Church. Jenkins, formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday at Kansas City following an operation for appendicitis. Mrs. Samuel Bedford Clay, wife of Capt. S. S. Clay, formerly postmaster of Paris, died at her home in that city Monday, 80years old. Survived by husband, and three children: Mrs. H. Clay Howard, Frank and Henry Clay.
