Whalen who resides at Curry in this county, was run over and killed by an L. & N. engine in the yards in Paris, Sunday. He was employed as a yard cleaner and at the time of the accident was shoveling cinders from a track at the passenger station. An engine was taking water and making considerable noise. Another backed down the track and was hot heard by the unfortunate man. About fifty people saw the impending danger and called to Whalen but too late to save him. He looked up as the engine was upon him and grabbed at it but he was thrown under the wheels and ground to pieces. Buried at Curry. GIVENS Dies Saturday Evening After a Long Illness BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER Mrs. Mary M. Givens, widow of George H. Givens, and at one time owner of of the Harrison Courier, died at Harrison Hospital Saturday. Age 69, born in Lexington. Her maiden name was Austin. Her father was a native of Maryland and her mother a daughter of Kentucky. She was married twice, first to Mr. Leslie. Survived by two sisters and a brother: Mrs. William Dills, Mrs. Fannie Curr and Lon Austin, of Kansas City, MO. Burial in Battle Grove. Survived by wife, formerly Miss Mary Hall, and four daughters and two sons; Mrs. Frank Sparks, of Leesburg; Mrs. Earl Jewett, of Amarillo, TX; Mrs. Houston Renaker and Miss Mary Carter, Everett and John Carter, of his city. Also five sisters and one brother; Mrs. Alice Kimbrough, of Everett, Wash.; Mrs. Dollie Ryan, of Seattle, WA; Mrs. Rufus Beagle, Mrs. Jas. L. Logan, Mrs. Geo. Leach, Mr. Rhodes Carter, of this city was a brother. Mrs. Sallie Martin, wife of C. B. Martin, died at the home of her husband in the Breckenridge neighborhood Sunday night of cancer of the stomach. The pall bearers were: Jas. H. Martin, Wm. M. Martin, W. A. Lydick, J. R. Shawhan, G. C. Stump and Lawrence Stump. Buried at Battle Grove. Born and reared in Harrison Co. Survived by husband, three sons, one daughter; Sidney, Leslie, George and Miss Daisy Martin; three brothers and two sister; Jospeh , J.W. And Sidney Stump of this county; Miss Mollie Stump and Mrs. Rees, of Washington. Nee Stump. William Howard Hill, son of James W. Hill. Burial in Battle Grove. Age not quite 5 years. Mrs. Sallie J. Renaker, wife of George T. Renaker, died at their home in Harrison Co. on Monday. Survived by husband, five sons and three daughters: J. G. Renaker, Cashier of the Florence bank, Florence, KY; A. P. Renaker, Cincinnati; A. J. Renaker; R. T. Renaker; Misses Eva G., Juanita and Christine Renaker. Also survived by 3 brothers: Rev. W. A. Penn, of Cynthiana; T. J. Penn and J. S. Penn of Scott County. Nee Penn. Burial in Renaker. Born in 1861. Singleton of Kansas City. Wm. Robinson and Mrs. Julia Jones Mullin were married in this city on July 20. Mr. Hiram Carter, aged 78, and Mrs. Monnie Fuller, aged 63, were married at the court house yesterday by Judge King. Second marriage for both. They reside near Sunrise. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 27 Jul 1911 Vol. 43 No. 44 Pg. 1 Col. 5 Dies of Pellagra The Lexington Leader of Sunday says: Mr. Gus Boswell, a well known and highly esteemed farmer of Scott county, died in this city Saturday of what the attending physicians pronounced pellagra. Mr. Boswell came here about six months ago suffering from a nervous trouble and developed pellagra. The body was removed to Georgetown Saturday afternoon, where it will remain at the home of a relative until Sunday afternoon when it will be taken to Jacksonville cemetery for interment. Bourbon Co. Mrs. William H. Whaley Sr. died on 7th. Isaac E. Harrison, formerly of Bourbon died in Chicago. Grant Co. Born to wife of Willard Younger, a son. Married: Jesse W. Smith and Miss Mar Clements. Pendleton Co. Mrs. Rhoda Ammerman, 70 died near Hightower Infant son of Grant Mains died "Aunt Joe" Chapman, age 85 died. Infant child of Earl Hobday died. Martin Davis, 87, died Married: Fred Iler and Miss Stella Ivor; Chas. N. McClanahan and Mrs. Essie Taylor; Chas. H. Moore and Miss Ethel Stone; Jas. Anderson and Miss Jenine E. Welch. Robertson Co. Lawrence Powers, was killed by a horse which threw him in such a way to break his neck. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 27 Jul 1911 Vol. 43 No. 44 Pg. 3 Col. 4 Selma George Gillard, age 38, a worthy, industrious well to do colored man, died at his home, Connersville, Saturday of pneumonia.
