Mrs. Ella Minor Hitch is the Claysville operator. Heretofore connection with Mt. Olivet was by way of Maysville and very unsatisfactory. Lake, a leading businessman, farmer and attorney of this city, who died twenty-two years ago. Daughter of Marcus C. Broadwell. She was 54. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. J. Van Deren, her mother, Mrs. Kate Broadwell, and two sisters, Miss Bessie Broadwell and Mrs. Frank G. Sprake and one brother, Fred Broadwell. Burial in Battle Grove. William Cleary, formerly of Harrison Co., died 1 Sep 1911. Buried in family burying ground. He was Irish and was born on the ocean when his parents were on the way to America. He was about 60 years old. He was left an orphan at an early age and was raised by John Carter. Mrs. Anna Daugherty Massie, died in Paris, Friday of uraemia poison. Survived by son, William C. Massie. Widow of W. W. Massie. Col. J. H. Holloway, died at Winchester. Wedding will take place in the fall. Waits – Cobb The marriage of Miss Minnie Mack Waits, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. T. Waits, and Mr. Simon Cobb was celebrated at the home of the bride’s parents at Shadynook last afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Her sister Miss Mallie Waits, was maid of honor. Rev., J. R. Jones performed the ceremony. Beckett – Mitchell On Thursday August 31st, at high noon at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ray A. Hawkins, of Swayzee, IN, occurred the marriage of T. M. Mitchell and Mrs. Flora T. Beckett. The bride was formerly Miss Flora T. Clark, daughter of John Clark of Claysville. Mr. Mitchell is an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The departed at once for Washington, DC and Portland OR and after October 1st will be at home to their many friends at Chicago, IL. Greene – Faulconer Mr. F. F. Greene of Cincinnati and Miss May Faulconer, daughter of Mrs. Hannah McGrath Faulconer of this county was married yesterday at St. Edward’s church. Rev. Geo. A. Bealer, officiating. Groom is the son of Joseph Greene formerly of this county. He is a railroad detective. Mr. & Mrs. James H. Carpenter of Millersburg announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Julia M. to Mr. Leslie Shrout, of Owingsville. The wedding will be celebrated in the fall. A. B. Barkley, Jr. Of Georgetown and Miss Lucy Marshall Redmon, daughter of George K. Redmon were married near North Middletown, Tuesday. Born: to wife of Joseph Rigg on Saurday Aug. 26 a fine son. The boy has been christened Bertram Canaan. Born: Aug 26th to wife of Charlie Orme, a fine daughter. The marriage of Mr. Clarence French and Miss Carrie Herrington occurred on Thursday, last at 2:30 o’clock. The M. E. Church parsonage was the scene of the interesting event. Rev. L. R. Godley, in words solemn and beautiful performing the marriage ceremony. The groom just in his 21st year, is the son of C. R. French of near town The fair bride is the daughter of Hutch Herrington of Cedar. Miss Chloe Sims, daughter of Jesse Sims of near Piqua, died yesterday at home of her parents of a lingering pulmonary disease. Age about 15. Grant Co. Mrs. Emily I. Wilson, died 22 Aug near Keefer, Grant Co. aged nearly 89. She was born 9 Oct 1822, married 20 April 1842 to Samuel Wilson. Eight children were born with four surviving. (Not named) Scott Co. Dr. John Duke Waller, age 69, died last week in Chicago in his home. He was brother of Mrs. J. G. Hunter, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Georgetown. Dr. Waller held a warm place in the hearts of Confederate Soldiers to whom he gently ministered while they were incarcerated in the Federal prison at Chicago during the Civil War. Mrs. James M. Coyle announces the engagement of her daughter, Virgina Shackleford to Mr. Homer Lewis Robinson. The marriage will be in September. Mr. H. M. Evans, of Georgetown, and Miss Mattie Harris, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Harris, formerly of Flemingsburg now of Vanceburg will be married Tuesday, September 12th. Born to wife of Word Dickey, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Minerva Baskett, at Boyd on Aug. 26th a fine 8 ˝ pound daughter – Mollie. Married, Herbert Berger and Miss Velma Hampton at the Catholic parsonage Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Father Martin Delaney, officiated. Robert Pennington died last week in Los Angeles, CA. He was born in Covington, lived in Falmouth and was about 55 years old. Simon Hampton, died 21 Aug 1911 in Covington of stomach trouble. He was 74 years old. Falral Antobus, aged about 16 years, son of Mr. & Mrs. Brack Antobus died Sunday Morning at his home on Railroad Ave. After an illness of typhoid fever. Walter Marshall, son of Mrs. Nancy Marshall died Tuesday near Elizabethville at age 20. Nicholas Co. Married, at Oakland Mills, on Aug 26th, Mr. J. Riley Macklin and Mrs. Maggie Sipe. Married at Millersburg on Aug 23rd, Prof. O. L. Mulliken, Principal of the Sardis Graded School and Miss Bessie L. Haskins, of Saylersville. The bride is a sister of Mrs. W. S. Prather, of Millers Station, with whom she and her husband are visiting this week. Mrs. Laura Barton, of Mexico, sister of James A. Fisher, of Carlisle, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mattie Ferrel, Waco, TX. Deceased was formerly a resident of Carlisle. Harrison and Robertson county people, the connecting link between Harrison and Robertson counties by telephone was completed, 2 Sep 1911 by placing a Harrison County box beside the Robertson County box in my office and a little switch connecting the two. . . . Eighteen months ago it cost Mt. Olivet and Cynthiana people 90 cents for a talk with each other by Cincinnati. Then they got a way by Carlisle for forty cents. When they put in my box I made transfers for 20 cents and now they can talk for 15 cents. . . . Married on Thursday Aug 17th Mr. Andy Insko of Mt. Olivet and Miss Mae Robinson, interesting daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thos. Robinson of this place were married in Maysville. They will reside in Mt. Taylor, of the Soldiers Home and daughter, Maggie of Los Angeles, CA, who have been visiting relatives here have returned to Peewee Valley. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Sep 1911 Vol. 43 No. 50 Pg. 5 Col. 4 Russell Railey Dead Russell Railey of Woodford County, one of the best known horsemen in Kentucky dropped dead on the street at Frankfort, Friday afternoon while proceeding to the hotel from the fair. He had ridden in a show ring and had captured the blue ribbon with his splendid mare "Golden Glow." He had complained of pains in his chest, and after reaching the city on a boat, he was walking rapidly to reach his hotel to lie down, when he fell backward and died instantly. His wife was walking a few steps behind him, but he was dead before she reached his side. He was about 61 years old.
