Keller and her son, Frank, in 1890. Mr. Keller was in charge of a string of horses from this county which had been racing at Latonia. The celebrated Huntress was in the bunch. A train of 13 cars left Latonia for Kansas City. Mr. Keller decided at the last moment to take his son with him as a pleasure trip. Their car was the second from the engine. Near Warrenton, MO, the draw bar pulled out of the car that was next to the engine, which necessitated transferring that car to the rear of the train, this putting Mr. Keller's car next to the engine. At an early hour in the morning in a dense fog there was a head on collision, Mr. Keller and his son were killed while asleep. All the other men in the car were killed, with the exception of a colored handler of horses, Mose ______ who now lives in Cynthiana. The horses were all killed outright or so badly hurt that they had to be destroyed. No other persons in the train were hurt. The bodies of Mr. Keller and his son were brought home for burial and the funeral was from the Smith House, then owned by W. W. Smith and wife, "Aunt Liz" Mr. Keller, mother.
