D. MARTIN Squire M. D. Martin died at Harrison Hospital 26 May 1911 after an operation conducted the previous Sunday. Born 5 Dec 1822 in Harrison Co. the son of William and Catherine Perrin Martin. Sixty eight years ago he married Zerelda Sellers, daughter of David Sellers. His wife aged 85 survives him. Four children survive: Dr. Wilder Martin of Freemont, NE; George P. Martin, Cyntiana; Mrs. E. W. Elliott of Tampa, FL; Mrs. Belle VanDeren of Harrison Co. Buried in Battle Grove. (Tribute to him by W. S. Haviland b. 29 Mar 1823 also printed.) Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 1 Jun 1911 Vol. 43 No. 36 Pg. 1 Col. 4 Deaths Mrs. S. C. Kennard, age 78, widow of Gat Kennard, died in Cynthiana Monday. Buried at Battle Grove. Survived by two daughters, two sons, four sisters and two brothers. (All named.) Mrs. Stella Renaker, widow of W. P. Renaker, died Saturday of Bright's disease. Daur of Kate Lemmons and was about 35 years old. Survived by husband of one week and 4 days. Also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Redd and Mrs. Birdie Ammerman. Buried at Berry. Mrs. Joseph Day, died at home of her son, Harry Day, age 80. Buried in Carlisle Cem. Mrs. Mary Monson, age 70, died Bourbon Co. Thomas Stamps, killed by train, age 50. Scott Co. George Hinton, age 82 died at Hinton. Sims Lucas, age 52, died on the Long Lick Pike. Pendleton Co. John H. Brownfield, aged 76 years, Civil War Veteran, died at the home of his son, Charles Brownfield, near Butler. At the country home the bride, near Antioch Mills, Orie Haviland Price and Mrs. Kate Cummins were united in the holy bonds of wedlock. Tim Hayes closed his distillery at Levingood after a run of six months. This distillery has a capacity of mashing 200 bushels of corn a day, but has only operated at half this capacity. Grant Co. Mrs. Elmer Smith died. Survived by husband and one son. She was daughter of J. R. Frakes. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 1 Jun 1911 Vol. 43 No. 36 Pg. 4 Col. 2 AT AGE OF NINETY Moses Florence, 90, one of the oldest citizens of Harrison Co. died in his home in the Republican neighborhood early Monday of the infirmities of old age. Born 26 Apr 1821 near place where he died. Son of William and Christine Florence. His parents came to KY from near Pittsburg, PA and landed at Limestone, now Maysville and journeyed overland on foot to this county. William died of cholera in 1833. His widow died in 1875 at the age of 96. Moses Florence married Mary Jane Smith in 1849. They had one son and two daughters, William J. Florence of Cynthiana being the surviving son. his sisters died the same day in 1857. After his wife's death Moses Florence married to Mary Elizabeth Smith. To the latter were born five children who survive. They are Mrs. Jennie Vogler of Harrison Co., Mrs. Maggie Florence of Scott Co., J. H. Florence of Harrison Co., W. G. Florence of Cynthiana and Miss Lou Florence of Harrison Co. Burial was in Battle Grove. He joined the Indian Creek Christian Church in 1860. For two years, 1856-57, he lived in Greensburg, IN.
