D. Best. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 1 Col. 3 Deaths Charles T. Donnell, former sheriff of Nicholas county died in Lexington on Saturday. Hargis Cook, age 30, son of James Cook died at the home of his parents in the Republican community, Thursday. Burial in Republican. Survived by parents and two sisters (not named). He was the 9th of James Cooks' children to die of TB. James Colvin, died at home of his sister, Mrs. Bev. Bennett, at Paris, 2 Dec 1911. Buried in Jacksonville Cem. Mrs. Fred Garrison died of heart failure at the home of her husband in Los Mosmalinos, CA on Sunday 3 Dec 1911. She was 40. Survived by husband and son, Rupert, age 16. She is also survived by four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Elizabeth Garrison, California; Mrs. Carrie Curran of Cynthiana; Mrs. Kittie Burnett of Paris and Mrs. John Johnson, Paris; Dudley Rose, California,; William and George Rose of Paris. Burial in Jacksonville. William Gibson, eldest brother of Mrs. Helen Madison and Miss Sarah Gibson of Cynthiana died in Cleveland, OH Saturday. Annie Laurie Mastin, age 11, died at the home of her grandfather, James Miller in Harrison Co. of diphtheria. Buried at Republican. Howard David Dunn, age 3, son of Clarence Dunn, died of pneumonia on Monday. Buried at Curry. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 1 Col. 4 About Presley E. A. Presley, buried at Pythian Grove. He had been living in Mt. Sterling but was going to Ohio. He was from Baltimore, MD. Killed by train on Monday last week near Robinson Station. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 1 Col. 5 Married Breiner - Elegar Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the marriage of Mr. Joh Breiner, of this city and Miss Anna M. Elegar, at Maysville on Nov. 28th. Attendants were Miss Clara Eckerdly, of Newport and Mr. Joe Fritsch, nephew of the groom. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. W. Elegar. The groom is the son of the late Fred Breiner of this county. Northcutt - Thompson John B. Northcutt, the aged real estate dealer and former banker of Paris was married in that city to Miss Cora M. Thompson, who has had charge of the millinery department of a store in Paris. Terry - Brayton Miss Lillie M. Terry of Williams, Arizona, and Dr. Nelson D. Brayton of Phoenix, Arizona were married at the residence of the Mayor and Mr. M. C. Swinford, Thursday Nov. 30. Rev. W. E. Ellis performing the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Jasper Terry, formerly of this county. Dr. Brayton is a surgeon of Uncle Sam's being at present in charge of a reservation in Arizona. He is originally from Indiana. The bride is niece of N. S. Terry, of this city and is related to Mayor Swinford. Dr. Brayton was accompanied here by his brother. Fryman - Whalen Miss Bertha Fryman, daughter of Chas. Fryman and Mr. John Whalen, son of Jack Whalen were married at the Bride's residence in this county on Tanksgiving Day. Clifford - Toadvine Miss Venie Clifford, daughter of Richard Clifford and Mr. Wm. A. Toadvine, of this county were married in Cynthiana Nov. 30. Hill - Clifford A surprise wedding Thursday last was that of Mr. Coley Clifford and Mrs. Ida R. Hill, both of this city which occurred in Covingtoni. Mr. Clifford is the son of Mr. R. L. Clifford, of Breckenridge and is general bookkeeper of the Farmers National Bank. His bride is sister of John J. Reber, of Richmond, IN formerly of Cynthiana. Helm - Jones Cincinnati Enquirer, Sunday: The marriage of Webster Helm, state senator elect and miss Marle Agnes Jones, daughter of Mrs. Jeanne D. Jones took place yesterday at Christ Church, Cincinnati. Rev. Dr. Nelsonofficiated. Owing to the recent death of the Groom's mother, Mrs. C. J. Helm, the wedding was witnessed by only the immediate families. The bride was given away by her brother, David D. Jones. Charles J. Helm, brother of the groom was best man. Mr. & Mrs. Helm left immediately on a wedding trip which will include Washington and New York, and upon return wwill reside in the Highlands. Ingram - Grinell Miss Grace Ingram, daughter of Mr. Park Ingram and Mr. Russell Grinell, of this city will marry this afternoon at the home of the bride's father on Pearl Street. They leave on th five o'clock train for his sister's home in Paris. Martin - Laytart Miss Grace Martin, daughter of Jas. L. Martin and Mr. Lee Laytart, son of J. W. Laytart, were married at the bride's home in this county yesterday. VanDeren - Shropshire Mr. W. W. VanDeren of this city and Miss Shropshire of Georgetown, will be married in Georgetown next Tuesday, 12th inst. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 1 Col. 6 The Brownings Assign J. F. and W. T. Browning of Pendleton County, have made an assignment for the benefit of their creditors. Attorney Wade H. Lail of Cynthiana is assignee. It is understood that the assignment of Messrs. Browning was precipitated by their being endorsers of Wm. Blackburn, whose recent failure was noted in these columns. Memorial Services The Cynthiana Elks observed memorial day, Sunday, with services at the Methodist Church. The Elks themselves were present in large numbers rgardless of the wet snow storm. Mr. A. C. VanWinkle, of Louisville, a young attorney-at-law delivered the annual address. The music was in charge of a choir. Mrs. S. A. Mickey, organist. Mrs. I. D. Best and Mrs. F. P. Clary sopranos. Mrs. Orie Lebus, Alto, Mr. Claude Wickliffe, tenor and Mr. C. M. Jewett, bass. Rev. A. T. O'Rear of the Methodist Church, Rev. W. E. Ellis of the Chrisitian Church and Rev. C. W. Elsey, of the Baptist Church were the ministers who aided in the services. The ritualistic work was in charge of the Esteemed Leading Knight, Dr. S. F. Musselman in the absence of the Exalted Ruler, Dr. Tod Smiser, who is in Arizona. The members of the order who died during the past year were, Robert E. Smith, George A. Moore and Jas. W. McKee. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 3 Col. 3 Morningglory T. Mort. Raymond, died 29 Nov 1911. He was born on farm on which he died a little more than 67 years ago. He was united with Miss Ellen McCauley, a sister of Esq. D. E. McCauley. His children are Mrs. Ava Cummins, and Orie Raymond. one grandchild, Blanch Cummins, one sister, Mrs. Cleveland of near Cynthiana adn one brother, John Raymond of Osgood, IN. Buried at Beaver Baptist. He joined the Beaver Baptist a little over 25 years ago under the same minister that he had the rest of his life and who preached his funeral. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 8 Col. 2 Woman Pioneer Dead [Arkansas Gazette, 15 Nov.] Mrs. Caroline Goodloe Shelton, one of the most widely known pioneer residents of Little Rock, died at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the family residence. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Frank D. Martin and Mrs. Jesse H. Parker; two sons, Lynn Shelton, chief clerk in the department of Public Works and Jay Shelton, manager of the I. Goodman Cigar Company of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; three brothers, George, Richard and Tom Gruelle, and one sister, Mrs. Helen M. Bassett. Mrs. Shelton was born in Cynthiana, KY, Feb 15 1846, daughter of John and Prudence Moore Gruelle and removed from there to Arcola, IL in the early '60s coming to Little Rock in 1886. Mrs. Shelton's maternal grandfather, Col. Noble Moore, commanded a regiment of Georgia Riflemen in the Revolutionary was and was the hero of the battle of King's Mountain, where with his regiment, he rousted the British. James Anderson Gilvin died at home at Dry's Ferry, in Nicholas Co. last Thursday. Buried at Piqua Christian Church Cem. Survived by widow and one daughter, Mrs. James Frederick, Piqua. Bourbon Co. William Lawrence died at age 65. Miss Addie Fogle, age 38 died. Elmer Watkins, brakeman on L. & N. was run over and killed by train at Snyder, 30 miles south of Richmond. Scott Co. The marriage of Miss Annie May Smith and Mr. Edward Lewis Foley was celebrated at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ollie Smith of the county. Rev. Ernest M. Harris, of the Great Crossing Baptist Church officiating. Pendleton Co. Married at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. T. C. Kerr in Falmouth, Mrs. Ambrose Cochran to Miss Grace V. Smiley. Charles Weaver, 17 month old son of John Weaver died Satruday at the home of his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James Orr, in Butler, KY. The marriage of Elmer Ellsworth Ewing, a substantial and highly regarded young business man of Goforth, anmd Miss Adah Margaret Gulick, occurred Thursday afternoon, Nov 30th at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. T. Stephens, near Morgan. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Elmer Lucas of Georgetown. The home of Mr. & Mrs. H. T. Clingner, near Goforth was the scene of a lovely wedding Thursday Nov 20th when their daughter, Miss Fannie Clingner became the bride of Mr. Lisle Gulick. Nicholas Co. George W. Bramblett, age 71, died Wednesday of last week. Born in Los Angeles, California, to wife of Paul Darnell, a son - Charles Calvin. Mrs. Hansford Stephenson, aged 21, died of TB near East Union. Edward W. Blake died of consumption at the home of his mother, Mrs. R.T. Endicott of Oakland Mills, age 37. Married at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. L. D. Irvin, at Moorefield, Mr. Wm. C. Perkins and Miss Elizabeth Irvin. Married in Carlisle by Rev. B. F. Wwindler, Mr. Archie McCall and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Chandler. Married in Fleming County, Mr. Avery Byram, formerly of Nicholas, and Miss Bina Spencer, daughter of John Spencer and niece of Mrs. Jas. L. Donnell and mrs. Frank Huffstetter, of this county. Married at the residence of C. F. Satterfield, Wednesday Nov 29, Mr. D. E. Brooks and Miss Mattie L. Satterfield. The bride is the daughter of H. Nelson Satterfield, Esq. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 12 Col. 1 Claysville (Ella Minor Hitch) Jessie Howard, oldest son of Grant and Anna Agnew Howard, died 2 Dec. 1911 at their home at Walnut Creek Bridge, and was buried in Clark Cem. on Sunday. He was 7 years old last June. Cynthiana Democrat Thurs 7 Dec 1911 Vol. 44 No. 11 Pg. 12 Col. 1 Hinton Wilbur Lancaster, son of Mr. Rufus Lancaster, died in Georgetown last week of typhoid fever. Wilbur was 17 years of age and the only child.
