Pg. 3 Col. 2 Curry Born to the wife of Charley Humphrey twin boys, weight 6 and 7 pounds. Pg 3 Col. 3 Claysville Rev. Hostetter, of Mt. Olivet, stopped here Monday enroute to see uncle Ennis Kelley who has been very sick for some time. Sam McLean, a farmer living near Hardin's Mill, was stabbed in the breast by James Asbury last Thursday in a fight which took place between the two in the engine room at the mill. This was the second scrap for Asbury that day, he having mashed Russell Whalen's nose just a few hours before. There has been more whiskey here since the county voted dry than ever before. The weekly trips to Wiglesworth's brings 5 to 10 gallons a trip. Is there no law to prohibit bringing whiskey into local option territory. Pg. 4 Col. 4 CIRCUIT COURT Now In Session, Sanders Murder Case Tried The Harrison Circuit Court began Monday with Judge Fryer on the bench and Commonwealth's attorney J. C. Dedman on duty. In instructing the grand jury Judge Fryer asked for a careful investigation as to any infraction of the local option laws. Grand Jurors Joe H. Cummins, J. Milt Florence, R. R. Pugh, J. C. B. Roberts, Elmer King, John Jameson, P. N. New, George W. Ecklar, J. W. Boyd, Harvey Marshall, William Turner, Lloyd Thompson, foreman. Petit Jurors (dh - Some of the list) R. M. Williams, J. W. Brannock, C. A. Rorer. ... Indictments Returned ... James Sanders, for murdering Mat Ross, was sentenced for 14 years in the penitentiary. Pg. 5 Col. 2 DEATHS Miss Belle Caldwell, aged 44, of Robinson, this county, died of pneumonia at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, in Indianapolis, last Saturday. Buried in Pythian Grove. Mrs. W. R. Hopper, aged about 80 years, died at her home near Headquarters on the 23rd. Burial in Carlisle Cemetery. Victor F. Bradley, lawyer, died of pneumonia in Georgetown Sunday, age about 50 years. Mrs. Lou Ewalt Haley, an aged and highly regarded woman, died near Shawhan at the residence of her son, Ewalt Haley, Monday Feb. 24, 1908, at the age of 71 years. She was the daughter of the late John R. Ewalt, of Bourbon, and was a member of the Methodist Church. At the age of about 30 she married George Haley, of Paris, who died some number of years ago. She was a sister of Mrs. Sallie Jouett, of Cynthiana and Mrs. John R. Ewalt of Lair. Two brothers, Henry and Samuel Ewalt, are dead. Mrs. Haley is survived by one son, Ewalt Haley, and two daughters, Mrs. Robt. Brashear, of Cleveland, OH, and Mrs. Jas. H. Howard, of Shawhan. Buried in Battle Grove Cem. W. A. Jones has the only yoke of oxen in our neighborhood. Pg. 6 Col. 2 Opossum Trot Mrs. Helen Garrett, of Missouri, and her sister, Mrs. Julia Ann Rudd, have been visiting their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lenox. Mr. B. F. Price sold his house and lot near Avena to Mr. Steve Whalen for $200. Alvia Rankin sold his tobacco to Mr. B. F. Whiteker at 10¢ per pound. Avena Elbert Dunn will rebuild his store that was destroyed by fire on the night of February 7th as soon as possible. Barefoot Died on the 18th, the 1 month old son of Mr. Abe Jones. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant on the 19th. Buried on the 11th at Mt. Pleasant Cem, the little three year old daughter of Mr. Pete Marshall. Buried on the 12th at Mt. Pleasant Cem., the little child of Mr. Jim Kinney. On the 12th, the death angel visited the home of Mr. Willie Coy, and took away little Ray, one of the twins. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant the 13th. Pg. 6 Col. 3 Connersville Mr. James Hedger, Sr. of Dry Ridge, now in his 80th year, was born in Harrison Co. where he has numerous relatives and friends who deeply sympathize with him in his sad affliction in the death of his wife, nee Darrough, aged 76 years. His two daughters from Indianapolis and Louisville have been with him for past few days.
