B. ROUSE & CO. MAIN STREET Pg. 5 Col. 3 DEATHS Capt Phil B. Thompson, Sr. one of the most noted criminal lawyers in Kentucky, died at Harrodsburg, Saturday. He was a veteran of the Mexican War and with three sons fought the civil war on the confederate side. Frank A. Lee, son of Mrs. Laura Miller Lee, died at their home in Middleburg, KY, Saturday, after an illness of several months. He leaves a mother, sister and brother. He was a nephew of Mr. Lawson Miller of this place. Mr. Wm. S. Light, a well known citizen of Havilandsville, died there Monday at an advanced age. Mr. George Hamilton Givens, passed away on Tuesday, December 1st at his home on Pleasant Street from the infirmities of old age. He was a native o this county and was born March 1, 1825, having attained the ripe old age of 83 years and 9 months. With the exception of about a year spent in the west in 1849, he has always made his home in this county. He is survived by his wife and one sister, Miss Lavenia Givens. He enlisted in Capt. John Shawhan's company for the Mexican war, June 6, 1846 with the best young men of this community, only three of whom survive. Capt. Wafford of Millersburg, & Mr. Wes B. Smith of Colville, two surviving members of Capt, Shawhan's Company, were here to attend the funeral yesterday. He was buried in Battle Grove. Pg. 6 Col. 3 Connersville Augusta Craig and his wife, Amanda Craig, two worthy colored people died Saturday and Sunday of consumption. The bodies were buried in the same grave on Tuesday Dec. 1st in Walnut Grove Cem. Pg. 6 Col. 4 Sunrise On the 18th of November, the funeral of Mrs. America Brownfield was preached her in the M. E. Church by Rev. W. A. Hostetter of Mt. Olivet. She was 71 years old and had suffered for some time with cancer of the stomach. She leaves a husband, John Brownfield and four brothers, John Samuel, Wm. and J. C. Beckett. Bland are receiving congratulations over the arrival of a fine son, Tuesday. Pg. 5 Col. 2 DEATHS Mrs. Bell Green died on Dec. 2. See Bartersville items. The Oddville vicinity lost one of its best citizens Sunday night when death claimed John B. Batson. He died of typhoid fever. He was buried at Oddville. He was the son of Dr. J. D. Batson and was a steward at the Oddville M. E. Church. He was 40 years old and is survived by wife, nee Kendall, and children; Mrs. Wm. T. Kearns, Messrs. Thomas, Clarence, Robt. Carroll, Reuben, Owen and Frank Batson. Mr. John Kinney of Claysville, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jack Batte, Tuesday at the age of 80. His wife was formerly Miss Elizabeth McLeod, died about four years ago. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Martha McLeod, and four daughters, Mrs. R. C. Batte of Covington, Mrs. Fannie Hitch, of Illinois, Mrs. Taylor Breeze, of Milford and Mrs. Jack Batte, Claysville. Sunrise W. S. Light, whom we reported last week as being very low, is dead and his funeral was preached at his dwelling last Wednesday by Rev. Samuel Foley. He was a member of the Christian Church at Antioch for quite a number of years. He leaves two children, Mrs. Wm. King and Martin Light. His wife who was a Miss Millie Casey, sister of W. T. Casey died some years ago. Mrs. E. M. Kelley, who together with her husband and two children moved to Tipton, IN some two years ago died last week of pneumonia. She was a daughter of Wm. Thorp, of near this place. She is survived by her husband and two boys. She was 31 years old. Pg. 8 Col. 4 Barterville Died on Wednesday, Mrs. Bell Greene, who died of consumption. Buried in our Cemetery. Born to the wife of Joe Mitcheltree, on the 3rd a nice girl.
