Mrs. Lucinda Coppage, widow of the late Wesley Coppage, died at age of 80. Several children survive including, E. M. and Lewis Coppage. Kerr to Retire The following item from the Lexington Leader is concerning General John B. Kerr, a brother of Mrs. B. T. Rigg of this city: "Lexington and Central Kentucky friends are interested in the future of Brigadier General John B. Kerr, commandant of the large military post at Ft. Riley, Kansas, who will be placed on the retired list on April 15, on his own application after nearly forty years service. No one had yet been selected in command at Ft. Riley. "He was appointed to the United States military academy from this district just after the Civil War, and was graduated from West Point in 1870. "Up to the time of his brigade appointment in April 1908, practically his entire service had been in the cavalry. He served in Indian campaigns and was awarded a medal for honor for bravery in action against Sioux Indians on the White River, South Dakota, in 1891. He served in the Sixth Cavalry with General Shafter's expedition to Cuba during the Spanish War, and was wounded in the assault on San Juan Ridge July 1, 1898. He subsequently served at the Paris Exposition as military attache of the Embassy at Berlin and commanded the Twelfth Cavalry at Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Since his promotion to brigade rank he has had command at Fort Riley. He is a man of fine soldiery appearance and stands high in army circles." General Kerr and wife will leave in a short time for a extended trip to Europe. LOG CABIN Fri. 16 Apr 1909 Vol. 14 No. 16 Pg. 3 Col. 4 Killed in Automobile Accident GROVER WALKER of Hoxie, Kansas, was killed in automobile accident on Sunday in his home town. He is the only son of Mrs. Alice P. Montgomery, formerly of Georgetown, and a brother of Mrs. A. S. Rice, of Cynthiana, and Mrs. Robert Pryor, Louisville. Funeral and burial in Hoxie, KA. ALLEN Died near Jacksonville, Monday at age 69. Survived by wife, formerly Miss Shewsburg, of IL, two daughters, Ella and Lula Allen and two sons, Alvin and Charles Allen. Buried in Jacksonville Cem. THOMAS JEFFERSON CAMPBELL Formerly of this county died in his home in Pendleton Co. 1 Apr. 1909. Burial in Bethel Cem. Age 76. Married Miss Wallace of IN and she died in 1893. They had five daughters and four sons, eight surviving. CHARLES J. BRONSTON Ex-Senator Bronston, age 60, died yesterday. Surviving children are: Sally, Hughes, Charles J. Jr., Susan, William of Lexington, Mrs. Guy Warren of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. J. S. Dudley, Chicago. PROF. R. N. ROARK President of Eastern Kentucky Normal School, died in Cincinnati, Wednesday. GUIDO BIANCKE Confectioner of Pike Street, died at his home Thursday. He was 40 and a native of Luca, Italy. He belonged to a prominent family and displaying an unusual musical talent was given a splendid musical education. He played the violin in some of the best Italian orchestras, for a time accompanying grand opera. He came to this country in 1891 and has been in the confectionary business here a number of years. He is survived by his wife and two children, Amelia and Joe. His parent are living in Italy and he had several brothers and sisters one of the latter being Mrs. Joe Giuchigliani, Richmond. Guido was for some years a member of both band and orchestra of this city. He was modest, gentlemanly and genial and was poplar in our community. The funeral services were held at St. Edwards church last Saturday morning, conducted by Father George Beeler, and the remains were interred at the Catholic cemetery. MISS LORENA BYRD Age about 21, eldest daughter of Leo Byrd, formerly of Butler but about ten years a resident of Chattanooga, TN, died in that city on Tuesday 13 Apr. 1909.
