Log Cabin Friday 4 Mar 1910 Vol. 15 No. 9 Pg. 5 Col. 3 Deaths Judge Henry Hutchings Haviland d. 2 Mar 1910 of paralysis. His great-great grandfather was James Haviland, who was born in New York on 25 May 1740 and died 25 Nov 1786, was a farmer and his wife was Miss Ann Hanniwell. James Haviland's son, Israel, was born in New York in 1765. and became a prominent shoe manufacturer in New York. He married Miss Jane Anderson and had 14 children. One of the children was Robert S. Haviland born in 11 Nov 1796 and came to Kentucky in 1818. He married Mrs. Mary C. Stewart in 1820 and died in Havilandsville, Harrison county in 1858. Their children were, Henry H., William S., James A., Malinda Jane Poindexter, Mary Anne White, Martha Jane Hamilton and Margaret Conway of whom William S. is now the only one surviving. Henry H. Haviland the third born was born at Havilandsville on 16 March 1825 and while he was a child his parents moved to Lexington, but after residing there for four years they returned to Havilandsville, where they spent their remaining days. Henry H. took a business course at a commercial college in Cincinnati and for some years assisted his father in the mercantile business. For some time he was postmaster of Havilandsville. He became one of the best known and regarded citizens in Harrison County, and in 1879 was elected as County Judge, serving a four years term in that office. He was the oldest Mason in Harrison County, being one of the twelve charter members of the St. Andrews Lodge, F.A. & M., whose pictures are now on the wall in the Masonic building in this city. He married Miss Susan Scroggin, of Woodford County, in 1868, their only child being Miss Sidney Haviland, who survives. His wife died some 12 years ago. Buried at Battle Grove. Luther Dunn age 14, d. last Friday near Centerville. Burial in Battle Grove. Leonard Humphrey, age 35 d. of consumption on Tuesday. Buried at Battle Grove. Daughter Florence, child of Homer Florence, d. Wednesday. Buried in Battle Grove. Age 2 Miss Mary Hemphill d. Cynthiana on 3 Mar 1910. Buried in Nicholasville Cem. b. 2 Jun 1829 at Nicholasville, Jessamine Co. Was 81 years old. Survived by two brothers; H. C. and Lewis Hemphill of Nicholasville and two sisters; Mrs. Laura Ozley adn Miss Arkie Hemphill of Cynthiana. Log Cabin Friday 4 Mar 1910 Vol. 15 No. 9 Pg. 5 Col. 4 Births To W. H. She was Miss Lena Rohr. On the night of 22 Feb. at the beautiful country home of Miss Kate Cummins, a social and musical was given the young people. It was a brilliant affair much enjoyed by about thirty. The music, which was a special feature, was presented by Brown, Henry, Petty and Rose on the cornet, alto horn, guitar and violin, accompanied by Miss Cummins on the organ. At 10 o'clock refreshments were served and at 12 o'clock the guest departed, all having spent a very enjoyable evening. W. T. Browning, of near Falmouth, came up on Saturday to meet with the band boys, being a member of this band. He has given the boys some good instruction.
