William Rogers, of Missouri, a son of the late Samuel Rogers, preached Sunday morning and night here. He preached his first sermon here in 1848, in filing an appointment of his father who was the first paid minister the church ever had. His salary was $62. We had a fine audience morning and night but it was mainly composed of children and grand-children of those that heard his first sermon 62 years before. Only four persons are now known to be living who were of age and in reasonable distance to have heard that first sermon: namely, Mrs. Loucretia Hunt Davis, Mary Hunt Taylor, of Illinois, Julia Ann Marsh Taylor and Wes B. Smith, of near here. Brother Rogers in his long and active life has immersed over 4,000 converts and is quite active and in good health for his age.
