W. B. Saffell, 68, distiller and banker, died at Lawrenceburg, KY. Jacob C. Warner, aged 82, died of infirmities in Bath County. A marble slab is to be erected on the spot where Gen. Zollicoffer fell at the battle of Mill Springs, near Somerset, 19 Jan 1862. Miss Louise Ella Huffman, of Painesville, OH, committed suicide by pushing herself through the window of a sleeping car on a fast train between Philadelphia and Pittsburg. Thomas J. Hancock, 53, superintendent of the hospital of the Confederate Veterans Home at Peewee Valley, died of heart disease Sunday. Gen. Goodyear, one of the inventors of commercial rubber, died in Connecticut, aged 83. Mrs. Fred Daniel and her little daughters aged 8, 3 and 1, were growned in the Licking River near Newport by the overturning of a boat, which was caught in a whirlpool. Linville’s having been found dead in Postmaster Young’s grape arbor. The Mt. Olivet papers attribute his death to apoplexy or heart trouble, and give no hint of foul play. John Bratton, formerly of the Pinhood neighborhood, died in Sedalia, MO. Born, to Mr. & Mrs. Early Day, a son. Joshua Ritter, the well known farmer and stock trader, has been verry ill the past week at his home south of town. About a week ago Mr. Ritter trimmed a corn too close and the result was that blood poison set in. Mr. Henry T. Pollar, the aged father of Mrs. Ren Perins and Miss Mae Pollard of this county, died at the home of his son, James Pollard, near Shelbyville, IN. Deceased was about 70 years old. James M. Sipples, nearly 90, formerly of Grant Co, died recently in Montana. He was twice married, his first wife being Mary Whitaker of Harrison Co., whom he married in 1842. His second wife was Mary McGuire, of Bourbon Co. He was the father of eleven children, four of whom survive.
