News April 2, 1930 Pete HAYNIE's home destroyed by fire about 7pm. It was occupied by Carl CAIN and family; the greater part of their house- hold goods were destroyed. Fire thought to hae started in a flue in an upstairs room. The fire alarm was turned in late but it was too late to save it. No insurance. A bldg next door was saved. Mr Cain carried $500 of his household goods out. This is the 2nd house that Mr HAYNIE owns that burned on this spot - the other one burned about 15 yrs ago and 3 buildings have "shaveburned" on this location. The 1st bldg was a flour and grist mill built in 1858 and operated by the first steam boiler and engine ever in the county. It was owned by Frank PEDIGO, CULLENS and Frank MARRS. In 1863 Ol HAMILTON and his men ransacked T'ville and burned the mill and a water mill and the courthouse. This building is outside the city limits and it took six minutes for the fire department to arrive. P D RICH bought the goods owned by the T'ville Bargain Store and will continue business called the "Green House". Former owner was Mr. MEADOWS, hate to lose him as a citizen here. Dr E R BRYANT will be in Louisville attending the KY Dental Assn. Ora TAYLOR has lost on the streets of T'ville between the home of the late Judge Joe S MILLER and the courthouse a gold brooch pin valued very much because of the history connected with it. The same person notified everyone that the last examination of the yr for the County Diploma will be given 25 & 26 Apr - the prerequisite for entering high school. Also notified all that the Monroe Co Board of Education will elect teachers for the rural schools and the county superintendent 10 May. J W GOODSON selling fruit trees in T'ville 7 Apr, G N CROW will be auctioneer. Members of the Eastern Star to attend a School of Instruction in Glasgow on 4 April per Vergie WOOD, W M and Ree HAGAN, Secretary. Florence CRAWFORD spent weekend with friends in Meshack. Miss Maude HALE spent several days with her sister, Mrs. Leck APOLLIS. Luther STEWART of Holland KY preached at the Baptist Church. Mrs Jack LEE of Louisville visiting her parents, Mr & Mrs John CLARK here. E H AUSTIN and Miss America SLIGER of Cookeville TN were married here Sun, performed by Walter HALE.
