Stevenson filled the pulpit at the Methodist church last Sunday morning and evening. Early in the morning he received a telegram announcing the death of one of his little grandchildren, a little boy about nine years old, at Augusta, Ky. Milton Elliott on the same day and night in the Christian church. (Rita's note...There are a few more mentions of him preaching at various times the next few years, but nothing of significance.) January 8, 1897 Dr. D. Stevenson, for many years President of Union College, at Barbourville and several years pastor of the M.E. Church at this place, died at his home in Barbourville last Saturday evening and was buried Monday at Lexington. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Contributed by Rita Stanifer Maggard Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997
