The skull of the infant was crushed, apparently by a blow with some kind of a blunt instrument. A physician of this city, who examined the remains of the infant, states that it had been buried about 5 or 6 days. The body of the infant was found by some children. When discovered, a strip of cloth was wrapped around it. The infant was found in a small excavation, about a foot in depth, and near a pile of straw. The children who found it, were raking up the scattered straw in the garden for purpose of burning it. Some straw had been thrown into the excavation with the loose earth, and the loosening of the straw by the children, led to the discovery. It is evident that the infant was buried at night, and in the dark, the straw was mixed with the loose earth through mistake. Up until yesterday, no arrests had been made in the affair. It is understood that an effort is being made, in a quiet manner. to find the guilty parties.
