News June 8, 1944 Deaths: Jess GRIMSLEY, Sulphur Lick, 82, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. F. BOWLES, in Bowling Green 31 May 1944. Burial White Cemetery. Died of a broken hip suffered about 3 weeks ago. Wife preceded him in death 14 yrs ago. Four children survive, 29 grandchidren. Sons: James and Millard of Glasgow and Mt Hermon respectively. Daughters: Mrs Donnie CHANDLER of T'ville and Mrs Minnie BOWLES of Bowling Green. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth BAILEY, widow of Lycurgus, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A C DOWNING of Flippin on 31 May 1944, age 71. Survivd by 3 children: Mrs. DOWNING, Mrs. H Z SHIRLEY of Woodburn KY and C H BAILEY of Flippin. A devoted niece who made her home with her for a number of years is Mrs Wallace BEARD of Madisonville KY. also survived by eight grandchildren & two great- grandchildren. Eight bros and sisters: J D FERGUSON of San Francisco, T W FERGURSON of Flippin, Mesdames Daisy HARLIN of Guthrie OK, Julia SMITH and Hattie SIDDENS of Glasgow and Mrs S R MYERS of Flippin. Burial at Etoile by Rev. J H SWANN & C E CARTER. Had united with Harmony Baptist Church early in life. John Thomas CRAIG, last Saturday afternoon, age 77, home of his daughter, Mrs Clancy PROFFITT of Emberton. Burial Neal Cemetery following services at the Baptist church in Flipin by Rev. J H SWANN. Married to Miss Ida BARITT of Bon Ayr in Barren Co in 1992. Widow, six children, 27 grandchilren & 4 great- grandchildren survive. Children besides Mrs Clancy re; Mrs Numors FULTZ of Finley IL, Witt and Glenn CRAIG of Flippin and Gamaliel and Guy CRAIG and Mrs. Hubert TURNER of Villa Grove IL. Baptist. Corinne HALL, d/o M r& Mrs Walter HALL of near T'ville was married to Sgt. Frank W HARRIS Sat evening, 27 May in Roberts Park church in Indianapolis Bridesmaid and best man were Mr & Mrs WIlliam MOORE of Indy. They came to T'ville after the wedding and visited a few days with the bride's parents. She is employed at the Central State Bank in Indy for past 2 yrs; he is a native of IN and stationed in Lincoln NB. May 28: Reed McPHERSON married Olene WADE. She the d/o Mr & Mrs L T (Jack) WADE of near T'ville, manager of the Forkton general store and asistant post master for the past year. He is the s/o Mr & Mrs Edd McPHERSON of the same community. Accepted for military service, expects to be called soon. Soldiers (with photos). Pvt Clyde BAILEY, s/o of Mr & Mrs G L (Fay) BAILEY, fighting German forces above Rome and in Western Europe; closing in on the stolen empire of the Japanese in the Pacific. The Bailey's have 3 sons in Service; fourth son Herman was classified 4-F under Selective Service and is employed in Indy. Pvt Clyde Bailey was in Italy at last report after a yr of serice in the Mediterranean theatre. He was once hospitalized and believed to have been wounded. Has been in service since Aug, 1942. Longest in the service is Sgt William BAILEY (photo), who recently left Fort Ord VCA and is in a Csualty company with a San Francisco Army Post Office #. Pvt George C BAILEY (photo) entered the Army Jan 25, 1944. He is at Camp Barkley, TX. Servicemen reports: A B RHOTON, S1/C, s/o Mrs Annie BURNETT RHOTON, serving as an armed guard on a merchant ship in the Mediterranean. Herbert 'Squeakey" JENKINS, s/o Mr & Mrs Benton Jenkins, with U S Navy at New Guidea. John Conkins MARRS, visited his parents, Dr & Mrs J F MARRS on June 2nd is stationed on the eastern seabord. Pvt. Oral HIGH, husband of Nell CARTER HIGH, is expected home on furlough from Ft. Eustis, VA. Pvt. Joe CREEK had been in the Nichols General Hsopital since Nov with an injured knee was home June 4 to 7. He and wife visited Mr & Mrs J F KERR with whom he formerly made his home. Before their marriage on Apr 27, she was Nancy Bell SHORT, d/o of Luther SHORT of Route 2. Pvt Edward J WHEET was home over the weekend visiting his mother, Mrs Lena WHEET and sister, Miss Jean WHEET of Mud Lick. William Herbert DEWEESE, S/1C, s/o Mrs. J T DEWEESE of Emberton home on a 12 day leave. Has been in the Navy since May 1943. Capt. E R (Doc) BRYANT, back in CA after a period of duty at an Army bse hospital in Ne Guidea. Ensign Cortez BUTLER, s/o Mr & Mrs Billie Butler, spent 2 days with his parents last week. Mrs. Clyde EUBANK wrote from Camp Wolters TX to tell about the camp. Pfc William (BIL) WHITE wrote from Camp Grant IL, s/o Mrs Bessie WHITE of Flippin - had been in service 18 months. Had been at Camp Anza CA, Ft Custer MI, Camp Grant.
