Moses MARTIN & Mrs Eliza NANCE of Cedar Flat were married yesterday. Cam McPHERSON Jr is assisting his brother, George, in his store and post office here; Cam is friendly, had accommodating manners and will be a successful salesman and popular. E WHITLEY bought a tract of land from Rousseau AMYX; 75 acres, adjoins Mr WITTY's large farm on Marrowbone Creek. Now owns over 500 acres, a lot of bottom land. P D KNIPP received a telephone msg that his brother James, of Burkesville is very low with paralysis. Ed GARMAN (correspondent to the Times) has closed his school at Good Luck and moved back in with his parents near Waterview. Miss Chowning JONES, one of the belles of Hiseville, accompanied by Walter JONES of Nashville visited relatives here recently. Ben SHIRLEY Jr in a few days will move from his farm on the Horse Cave Road to E WITTY's farm on Marrowbone. Mit E WITTY and Calvin NORRIS of Hico TX are visiting their parents and friends at Summer Shade. ___ line missing ___ [perhaps Parthenia, widow] of Dr Lindsay WATSON died at the home of her son-in- law, J B HARVEY on Marrowbone Creek Dec 17th; buried in the Summer Shade Cemetery on the 18th. Weather severe but a large congregation was there for services. Services by Rev M P BRANSTETTER. She was 77; her husband died 12 years ago. Raised a family of one son and four daughters - Dr M L WATSON of Summer Shade; Mrs N W TUDOR of near Summer Shade, Mrs J B HARVEY of Willow Shade, Mrs HOLMAN of Perkins in Hart Co and Mrs Wesley WILLIAMS of Sumner Co KS. LYONS preached at the Christian church. Wm GILL is much improved. Prof WHITE's school closed today, beginning again next month. LaFayette BOWLES is no better. Wife of Charlie WADE died last week after a protracted illness. Women of Summer Shade went to home of Mrs. Mary WARDER last Monday with a big willow basket - celebrated the birthday of Nancy WARDER. "Aunt Nancy" was totally surprised, she is 83 yrs old and the only child living out of 14 children and has only one child out of 7 living. Sulphur Well report for Dec 24th 1897: James MORGAN closed his school Fri. Miss Pearl SKAGGS won the premium in the advanced spelling class. Mormon conference here well attended. Ed HAYS, one of the men who made an assault on Sam WELLS was at trial Wed, bail fixed at $500; he failed to make bail and was remanded to jail. Henry HAYS, the other assailant is still at large. Miss Helen SKAGGS is visiting her aunt, Mrs Louisa SKAGGS of Edmonton. Junius LOVE, from MN visiting with us; moving to Alabama soon. Elliot CONYERS of Monroe KY here for a few days visit. A dance held at J E LOVE's Wed night. Mrs Andy BROWN just returned from MO where she had been visiting her father, James E HARDY formerly of here; he is in bad health with face cancer. Dec 20 letter from Gallatin TN mentioned Miss Laura MUDD, d/o Dr MUDD of Hardyville; had been attending Howard Female College.
