NEWS: Tidbits, Jan. 25, 1900, Breathitt Co. Submitted by Norma Adams From the Hazel Green Herald - Jan 25, 1900 Dr. Nickell and H. Clay Lacey returned Saturday from Frankfort where they have been as witnesses in the state ticket contest. Rev. J. J. Dickey, of Campton, was in our town Sunday night and Monday in the interest of the County Bible depository. Miss Mina Nickell, a beautiful burnett, now with Mrs. Nannie Cravens, has returned from a pleasant visit to toliver, so our poet informs us. We learn that our esteemed young townsman, W. H. Kash, is soon to hang out his "shingle" as attorney-at-law. May success be his. Married at the residence of the brides parents, Newton Maloney and wife, on Thursday Jan. 18, W. M. Trimble and Miss Emma Maloney, Rev. E. K. Pike officiating. Dr. Colyer, the dentist, requests us to announce that he will be at Salyersville during circuit court, prepared to attend to all who require their teeth plugged or who wish teeth made. Married at the residence of the brides parents, Holly Wilson and wife, on Wed, January 17, J. Morton Peratt and Miss Rebecca Wilson. Attendants, Mort Wilson and Miss Lillie Havens. Elder Leander Lacy performed the ceremony, after which the bride and groom repaired to the residence of the groom on the Murphy fork, and at once began housekeeping. The Herald extends congratulations and suggests that the home paper would be a valuable adjunct to a newly married pair. A few days ago, a H. G. father had a thrilling experience at his heretofore well regulated home. A few mornings since he wanted to get his son up early and after trying to fetch him by calling him, he proceeded to the room and turned the "kivers" down and gave him a good spanking with his hand. It happened that the hired girl had been given the boy's room the night before and the old man unwittingly spanked the wrong party. Consternation reigned in the household for a spell, but everything is quiet on the Potomac now. DAYSBORO DOINGS Bud Little went to Hazel Green Sunday. Miss Maude Taulbee attended church at Hazel Green most of last week. Mr. and Mrs John. W. Taulbee and Mr and Mrs. S. C. Alexander attended church at Hazel Green Sunday. Daysboro may be behind Campton in the way of widows, but we have one man near this place that has more brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters and sisters-in-law than most any man in Kentucky. He has 26 sisters and sisters-in-law, and 28 brothers and brothers-in-law.
