NEWS: Tidbits, May 18, 1900, Breathitt Co. Submitted by Norma Adams From the Hazel Green Herald: Swango Springs Sayings - Miss Eliza Nickell was in your town shopping Friday. Rush Swango went over to Campton Saturday to see the base ball game. J. K. Cockeram, proprietor of the Combs House at Campton, gave us a call Thursday. Felix Craft and wife attended th emeeting at Salem Saturday and Sunday. Ova Swango and wife, of Hazel Green Heights, were pleasant callers at the Springs Monday. Messrs. Bascom and Rice, of Sharpsburg, arrived here Sunday for alengthy stay at the Springs. Jack frost, an uninvited guest, was with us part of last week and we are sorry to say he was such a big eater, he scarcely left us with anything in our garden. S. H. Nickell and Miss Mabel Cross, of the academy lodge, were taking in the sights and enjoying a horse back ride out this way Friday. This certainly is one case in which the Cross is no burden but seeming of much pleasure. SUNNY SIDE Grant Lacy came up Sunday to see his parents, Uncle Newt Lacy and wife. J. T. Day lost several paneis of fence by fire last week. No insurance. Uncle Rastus Brooks is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Tennie Spencer of Menefee county this week. Aunt Kitty Nickell, of Grassy, is spending a few days with her brother, J. E. Brooks and family. MORGAN COUNTY Miss Minnie Wallace is on the sick list. Mrs. Wm. Wallace visited her daughter Mrs. Cundiff, Thursday. Miss Alice Wills, of Hazel Green, attended church here Sunday. Come again Alice. Dr. Gevedon was called to see Mrs. John Taulbee last Saturday and found her in a very critical condition. Wm. Wallace gave an elegant dinner Sunday, May 13th, in honor of his 63d birthday. It was one of the grandest dinners ever set in Morgan County. Among those that attended were Bro. Gevedon, of Grassy Lick; Thomas Lee and wife, Andy Blankenship, wife and children, Grant Nickell and family, Mrs. Cal Cundiff and children, Hiram Blankenship and family, John Wallace wife and family, Mrs Barney Blankenship and family, Miss Alice Wills of Hazel Green, numbering 42 in all. All seemed to enjoy the feast. All went away feeling that it was good to go there. ______________________________
