Remains buried in the family burying ground near Powder Mills Saturday. J W PAYTON, our popular Deputy Sheriff to marry Miss Mabel TRUMAN today at the home of the bride in Knoxville TN. Sam RICHEY was married to Miss Bettie KNIPP in the store of C M CARVER here yesterday; ceremony by Rev W C HICKS. Will live near Sweeza, respected couple. John A SHIRLEY to marry Miss Ora Lee WALLACE tomorrow at her father's house, B B WALLACE of near East Fork. Mrs Betsy COX, mother of Joe died last Tuesday at 1 pm at her home a few miles from town - old age. The same evening at 8 pm, his wife passed away from measles. Mrs COX was a daughter of Will CHANDLER and the 2nd of his grown children who have died of measles in the last few days. He has 2 other daughters who are very low with the same disease. Women were members of the Baptist Church. E T TINSLEY died last Friday, illness of several months; age 65; member Peters Creek Baptist Church for over 14 years. Left wife, one son and two daughters. Services by Eld J P DURHAM. 8 April 1896 issue Mrs Joe CLARK died at her home last Friday; left a husband and 3 children. Mrs. Joe GILL died Monday night of measles. Her husband left her some time ago and she was in destitute circumstances; with proper attention she doubtless would have lived. Mr GILL lives in Nashville. Mrs. Georgia HURT, wife of Samuel of Cedar Springs, died 27 Mar; left a husband and 2 small children. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church; services by Eld. J P DURHAM. Old Aunt Peggy FROGETT who lived in the VANANT neighborhood died last week of old age; her exact age was unknown but she was very old. Good & respected; buried at her home. Lawrence TURNER md Miss Annie L REED last Sunday at her father's house. He the s/o R C TURNER decd;; she the d/o T N REED; live in the Mocasin neighborhood; Rev J P SOWERS performed the ceremony. Will OLIVER md. Miss Nettie ROBINSON in the Bon Ayr country Sunday of last week. Mrs. STEFFY, widow of Lawrence STEFFY died at her residence near Bon Ayr last Sunday night. An excellent lady; mother of Wm STEFFEY of the Sinking creek country. Buried at Bon Ayr Monday evening last. Aunt Lisa SCRIVNER died at the residence of her husband George, 1 1/2 miles SW of Glasgow on the morning of Apr 2nd; age 76. Funeral on the 4th - large concourse of friends and relatives; buried in the graveyard at her home. Survived by husband and six children. Had been a member of Dover Baptist (white) until about 26 years ago; granted letters of dismission to the First Colored Baptist Church of Glasgow. Was born the property of Alexander DAVIDSON, a Baptist minister and pioneer settler of the now South Fork community when still a part of Warren Co. Alexander was the great-grandfather of B G DAVIDSON of this place. She was the dau of 'Uncle Hark" who was known as the "cake baker" of long ago. She was sold and James W SCRIVENER who owned her husband bought her; served faithfully until liberated. Respected by whites and blacks alike; had built a comfortable home.
