He was born December 29, 1934 in Greenup, Kentucky, the son of Mack and Essie ( Boggs ) Akers. He served his country in the United States Army finishing his term as a Sergeant from 1951 - 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was first employed with Nolte Brass Foundry retiting after 30 years of service and then worked for Yost Superior until 1992. Jesse was a member of the Mechanicburg United methodist Church where he took pride in taking care of the landscaping. He enjoyed music and for several years was part of a band, The Country Sound. Jesse also loved woodworking, he made or refinished many items for family and friends. He was also fond of his animals. He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Fonda Stratton Akers,whom he married December 7, 19189 ; daughters, Vickey Justus and Sandy ( Roger ) Hess both of Mechanicsburg ; grandchildren , Derek ( Emily ) Hess , Stacey Hess and Carly Justus ; a great-grandson, Mason Hess ; his mother and father-in-law, Chester and Sue Stratton of Springfield, sisters, Faye ( Bill ) Grimm of West Virginia and Tammy Akers of Kentucky ; brothers, Richard ( Ruby ) Akers, Denny Akers, Larry ( Debbie ) Akers, Bobbie ( Vicki ) Akers all of Kentucky and Donny ( Martha ) Akers of Mechanicsburg ; brother-inlaws, Steve Stratton of Springfield and Larry Stratton of Vanuatu, South Pacific, several nieces and nephews. Jesse is preceeded in death by his parents and four brothers, Clyde, Mack, Gene and Gerald Akers. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdayin the church with Rev. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church Landscaping Fund, 42 North Main Street, Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044. Services are entrusted to Skillman, McDonald and Vernon Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
