Alderson April 30, 1833 - unknown Simpson-Allen County KyArchives Biography Author: Kentucky: A, History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed JOHN J. ALDERSON was born April 30, 1833, in Sumner County, Tenn. He is the ninth of seven sons and five daughters born to Jeremiah and Lucretia (Newlen) Alderson, natives of South Carolina. Jeremiah as a son of James Alderson, who married Elizabeth Russell, and came from South Carolina to Sumner County, Tenn., about 1804, and entered lands both in Tennessee and Kentucky, was a general trader, a plain man of Irish extraction, and was a son of Benjamin R. Alderson, who was a favorite with the Indians. He was accidentally drowned; his body was found by the Indians, who mourned and lamented his loss. Our subject's grandfather moved to Marion County, Ill., about 1839. The mother of our subject was a daughter of James Newlen, who married Patience Horn, and was by occupation a farmer. John J. Lived with his parents till twenty, when he commenced farming for himself. He married, January 1, 1860, Nancy B. Peden, of Simpson County, and a daughter of Andrew and Rebecca (Owens) Peden, of Irish descent. Mr. Alderson had two children born to him by this marriage, one living, Enoch. His wife died July 28, 1863. December 29, 1865, Mr. Alderson married Nancy Jane Lewis, a daughter of Leonard and Sarah (Williams) Lewis, of Kentucky. To this union were born four children, George B., William P., Flora E. And Pomona A. His second wife died September 22, 1878. He married for his third wife Mrs. Lucinda P. Skeen, of Simpson County. She was the widow of Jasper Skeen, to whom she bore two sons: John William and Jasper. Mr. Alderson has had born by his last wife one child, Irven. He and wife are members of the Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Grange. He came with his parents to Simpson County when a lad of twelve years. Mr. Alderson purchased his first land of 106 acres on Lick Fork, in 1866, on which he lived fourteen years. Located in the fall of 1883, where he now resides, on 120 acres, which he has improved with a fine cottage; also owns 100 acres in Sumner County, Tenn.; also 150 in Allen County, Ky., all of which he has accumulated by his own hard labor, except $1,000 secured with his second wife.
