Born: Hiseville, Barren, KY Son of: Joe B and Mary Alexander, deceased Education: Hiseville High School, college in CA Military: U S Army, serving in the last American Cavalry Unit to be disbanded, completed service as an infantryman serving in France and Germany in 1944 and 1945, participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Joined MN Department of Conservation 1957 as a game warden stationed at Bigfork, MN, promoted to Regional Enforcement Supervisor 1966, appoitned Assistant Commissioner for Administration 1971. Began his position as Commissior of the Dept. of Natural Resources 1978, served until retirement in 1991. Outspoken conservationist, sought-after speaker (more than 50 annually), made regular television appearences. Held Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Metropolitan State University. Married first to Ruth, married secondly to Shirley Hunt, who survives. Other survivors: Son: Will Alexander Daughters: Marcia Meier and husband Tom and Betty Jean Alexander, all of Minneapolis. Grandsons: Austen Alexander and Marcus and Alex Meir. Brothers: William Alexander of Nashville, TN and Glen and wife Opal Alexander of Glasgow. Sisters: Anna Katherine Strader, Lexington, KY Sue Nell Grider and Husband J. L. of Gridersville, KY Mary Verna Pippin and husband Vrnon of New Orleans, LA. Locally by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial service held 22 October 1998 Colonial Church of Edina, burial in Lakewood Cemetry in Minneapolis, MN.
