AND MRS. ALFRED ALLEN Probably for the first time in the history of the Cloverport Methodist Church, the funerals of a man and wife was held at the same hour. This occurred on Sunday afternoon, January 20, 1929 when the Reverend O. T. Nichols, Pastor of the church, conducted the double funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred ALLEN, who died on Saturday, January 19, 1929. Mrs. ALLEN preceded her husband in death by six hours. The two lives were taken in the influenza epidemic, which has been widely spread throughout the nation. Mrs. ALLEN was born September 12, 1862, and a native Kentuckian. Her maiden name was Miss Nannie PATTERSON. Mr. ALLEN was born July 8, 1859. They married on July 28, 1891. They are survived by one son: Oscar ALLEN, with whom they had made their home, since Mr. ALLEN'S health failed some two years past when he suffered a stroke of paralysis; also the following daughters, all of this city (Cloverport): Mrs. Baker CARWILE Mrs. Mace ROBINSON Mrs. Eugene DENHAM Mr. and Mrs. ALLEN had lived in Cloverport a number of years. They also raised three of their grandchildren (for several years), who were left without other support. Both members of the United Brethren Church. C. W. Hamman was undertaker in charge, and was assisted by Joe Sapp of Hawesville, (Hancock County), Ky. Burial was held in the Cloverport Cemetery.
