ALLEN Ancestry Milton Harvey ALLEN is the son of Douglas ALLEN, who was the son of Joseph ALLEN, the son of William ALLEN, the son of Robert ALLEN, who lived and died near the town of Larne, Antrim Co. Ireland. Robert ALLEN, a Presbyterian Irishman married Janet HAIR. They lived near the city of Larne, Antrim Co. Ireland. (The home has been in the famiy over 200 years.) He lived to be 94 years of age adn his wife died at 75. Of his family of twenty-three children, two sons, David and William emigrated to America in 1729, and settled among the Quakers in New Jersey, where he married and had one daughter but the name of his first wife is unknown to us. His second marriage was to Jane WARFORD by whom he had eight children. Three sons were killed in the Revolutionary War. All died in early life or were killed in war, excepting David and Joseph. The family had moved to Loudon Co. Virginia, several years before the Revolution. In Virginia, William ALLEN again married, this time to a wido named BEEKMAN. There were three more children by this third marriage. James the youngest, lived to maturity and married. William ALLEN died in 1799 on his farm in Loudon Co. Virginia. Joseph ALLEN was born in New Jersey, April 29, 1764, and died March 1 1843. His wife, Francs WRIGHT ALLEN was born January 6 1766, and died November 17, 1843. They were married in Loudon Co. Virginia, 1787. In 1800, soon after his father's death, Joseph ALLEN sold his farm to his Half- brother, James ALLEN, and moved with his family to Clark Co. Kentucky. Joseph ALLEN was in the Revolutionary Army and witnessed the surrender of Cornwallis, though then but 16 years of age. He and his brother David married sisters. Both families moved to Kentucky. Joseph and Frances ALLEN reared a large family on their farm in Clark Co. Kentucky, born in the following order: 1 Margaret ALLEN born Sept. 15, 1788, in Virginia 2 William ALLEN born Dec. 16, 1790, in Virginia 3 John ALLEN born Nov. 20, 1792, in Virginia 4 David ALLEN born Oct. 5, 1794, in Virginia 5 Robert ALLEN born Feb. 17, 1797, in Virginia 6 Douglas ALLEN born Oct. 29, 1799, in Virginia 7 James ALLEN born June 1, 1802, in Kentucky 8 Louisa ALLEN born Sept. 1, 1804, in Kentucky 9 Wright ALLEN born March 2, 1807, in Kentucky 10 Joseph ALLEN born Dec. 12, 1812, in Kentucky All of these children of Joseph and Frances ALLEN lived to maturity and married excepting John, the youngest, who was killed by a falling tree in a strom when about 20 years of age. The foregoing sketch of the ALLEN ancestry was sent to me by Cousin Marian ALLEN of Greencastle, Indiana. He is the son of William W. ALLEN, who was Cousin Edgar ALLEN's brother, they both being sons of James ALLEN, Uncle Douglass's next younger brother...
