That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers & served as herein stated. In the summer of the year 1776 he volunteered under Capt CLOTS of the Pennsylvania Riflemen in the town of Lancaster in said state the name of his lieutenant was MYERS & the ensign HUGGLE That under said officers he was marched to the city of New York where they joined the Regiment commanded by Colo HAND who he believes belonged to the regular army - He was taken thence to Long Island where they joined the main army commander STERLING. At long Island they had an engagement with the British army in which the Americans were defeated in which a part of the American army was taken & the balance retreated to the city of New York. From New York they retreated under the command of Genl WASHINGTON to the white plains where they had another engagement with the British in which the British were repulsed. From the white plains they marched to Hackensack & thence to Newark thence to Brunswick thence to Newton where they surprised & took a part of the British army composed of Hessians. From thence he marched home to Lancaster having served a period of six months. He received a regular discharge from his Capt but has long since lost or misplacde it during & after the great lapse of time of little value. In the fall of the year 1777 he was pressed by one Ross in the town of Lancaster & was put to driving a team in the service of the United States the _____ composing said team having been made up in said neighborhood by impressments. From Lancaster he drove said team to Brandywine where a Battle was fought between the Americans & British army in which the Americans were forced to retreat. thence he went to Philadelphia thence to Valley Forge where the army went into winter quarters, that ____ he returned home having been about absent about three months. In the Spring 1779 he was again pressed ____ the same officers of ___ ______ in the service of Lancaster From that he went loaded with ammunition to the state of Rhode Island this time he was in the service about two months. In the year previous he was engaged in the same way hereby _____ from Lancaster to little place called Wellington from here he _____ fall into the hands of the British Also in hauling of spirits from Ph iladelphia for the same reason In this service he was engaged about two months He knows of no person by whom he cam prove any part of his service in the ______ country except Philip AMENT whose deposition is hereto annexed which contains the amount of his knowledge on the subject & who from age & infirmity is not obtained without great inconvenience to attend court in person. He hereby relinquishes every claim which he may have to any pension or annuity except the present & declares that his name is not on the pension Roll of the agency of any state. WILSON JPHC State of Kentucky Hardin County Sct I Samuel HAYCRAFT clerk of the court for Hardin County do hereby certify that the foregoing The application of Anthony AMENT being returned for further ____ the said applicant appeared in the Hardin County Court on the 15th day of July 1833 & being first duly sworn deposeth & saith That he was born in York County in the state of Pennsylvania in the year 1767. That he has no record of his age except what he had made himself in his own family record which he made from what he understood from his parents. In the year 1782 he removed from Lancaster Penn where he lived when he entered the service to Shenandoah County Virginia where he lived until the year 1804 when he removed to Hardin County Kentucky where he has resided ever since. That ____ of his old age & loss of memory & the great length of time he is not now able to state more definitely the time he was engaged as a teamster than is stated in his original declaration but believes that it was not less that the time stated in his original statement. JPHC And the court do hereby declares their opinion after the investigation of this matter & after putting the interrogatories prescribed by the was department that the above named applicant was a revolutionary soldier & served as stated and the court further certifies that James DAUGHERTY who subscribed the certificate attached to the original declaration is a clergyman resident in Hardin County & that Benj SINGLETON who also signed the same is a resident in said county & [ink blot] ble person & that their statement is entitled to full credit. EDWARDS Commissioner of Pensions Rev & 1812 Wars Section October 21, 1928 Mrs. Joseph BEARD, Senior 474 West Second Street Lexington, Kentucky Madam; I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, S.1159, it appears that Anthony AMENT (pensioned AMET) was born in 1757, in York County, Pennsylvania. While a resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the summer of 1776, served six months as a private in Captain KLOTZ'S Company, Colonel HAND'S Pennsylvania Regiment and was in the battles of Long Island and White Plains. He enlisted in the autumn of 1777, served three months as a teamster in Captain ROSS' Pennsylvania Company and was in the battle of Brandywine. He enlisted in 1778 and served two months as a teamster, dates and names of officers not given. He enlisted in the spring of 1779, and served two months as a teamster in Captain ROSS' Pennsylvania Company/. In 1782 he moved from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Shenandoah County, Virginia, remained there until 1804, when he moved to Hardin County, Kentucky. He was allowed pension on his application executed January 21, 1833, while a resident of Hardin County, Kentucky There are no date on file relative to his family, Respectfully, E. V.
