M. Armstrong & Company Charles Asmann, Jeweler, was born September 29, 1831, in Germany, where he learned the jeweler's trade, and, in 1854, came to America; and, after working for a time in the jewelry business in Cincinnati, located in Covington, Kentucky. Until 1863, he was engaged in the house of George W. McDonald, and, in that year, bought out Mr. McDonald, and has since continued the business with great success, having always kept up to the demands of the public in his line; has accumulated considerable property, and is now the oldest and most influential jeweler of Covington. In 1865, he was elected member of the City Council, serving in that body two years; was one of the original movers in the organization of the German Mutual Fire Insurance Company, of which he was elected first President, and is now one of its Directors; takes an active interest in all public affairs, is modest and unassuming in manners; is connected with several social organizations; is an energetic, enterprising, and upright business man; and one of the most substantial and worthy citizens of Covington. Mr. Asmann was married, in 1856, to Miss Emma Albrecht, of Cincinnati. They have six children.
