To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Bacon.John.1896.Barren-Edmonson.OBIT John Bacon July 1896 Barren-Edmonson County KyArchives Obituaries Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 22 Jul 1896 "Mr. John Bacon Dead. Mr. John Bacon died at his home near town Friday morning of last week. His death was not a surprise, as he had long been in ill-health. Mr. Bacon was about seventy-four years of age at the time of his decease. "Mr. John Bacon was born in Edmonson county, near Chameleon Springs, now owned by Dr. W. A. Williams. He removed to Barren county at an early day, and by far the larger portion of his life was spent in Glasgow and vicinity. During the war he removed to Missouri, but soon got into trouble with the guerillas and home guards of that State on account of his pronounced Southern sympathies, and came to Kentucky. Before the war he ran on the river as steamboatman from Bowling Green to Evansville and between Evansville and Louisville. With the exception of a few years, we believe his whole life's citizenship was with Barren county. Personally, Mr. Bacon was one of the best and cleverest of men, and a friend as true as steel. He was a manly man, a brave, true man, and will be most greatly missed and mourned by those who knew him most intimately. "The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery here, Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends."
