Born July 5, 1926, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Madge Isaacs Cook. She had been a librarian in Louisville, and in Danville at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she also was a member, Edna L. Toliver Elementary School and Boyle County Public Library. She was a member of the Garden Club of Danville, Daughters of the American Revolution, and worked with Boyle County 4-H horticulture programs. She was instrumental in restoration of McDowell House and its gardens. She attended Virginia Intermont College and graduated form University of Kentucky with a degree in library science. She was the widow of William H. Balden Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Maude B. Adams of Lexington; two sisters, Margaret Davis of Moreland and Ellen Braselton of Oklahoma; and a grandson. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral home. Memorials may go to charity. ______________________________
