She was at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Dyer (nee: Mollie Barnes), which place she had made her home for several years, when the angel of death came. Mrs. Barnes was in her 82nd year at the time of her death, and her long life has been one of usefulness and Christian benevolence. She raised a large family of children, and leaves 5 sons and 2 daughters to mourn her loss. She was the venerable mother of W. K. Barnes, lawyer, of Hardinsburg; David Barnes, merchant at Smithland; John Barnes of Missouri, Charles Barnes, of Rome, Indiana, and Reverend Edmon Barnes, a prominent minister of Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Mr. J. J. Dyer by Reverend S. G. Shelly, Sunday morning at 8:30, after which the remains were taken to Union Star, her old home, and interred in the cemetery at that place.
