R. semi anl all'ce ending 4 Mar 1824 $43.43 5 months Revolutionary claim Acts March 18, 1818, and May 1, 1820 Original claim District of Kentucky Sct On this 22nd day of September 1823 personally appeared in open Court being a court of record established by the legislature of Kentucky having power to find and imprison for the County of Grayson, Jonathan BOZORTH aged about 69 years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the act of Congress of the 18th of March 1818 and the 1st of May 1820. That he the said Jonathan BOZORTH enlisted for the term of three years in the month of September in the year 1776 in the State of Pennsylvania in the Company commanded by Captain John WILSON in the regiment commanded by Colonel Aeneas McCOY in the line of the State of Pennsylvania on the Pennsylvania Continental establishment that he continued to serve in the said corps until the end of the three years when he was discharged from the said service in Pittsburg in the State of Pennsylvania, that he was in the skirmishes of Woodbridge, Bonbrook, Broadhea d and McINTOSH'S s campaigns against the Indians - and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said service except the affidavits of Edward DEHAVEN and Joseph BEATTY here annexed and in pursuance of the act of the first May 1820 I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March one thousand eight hundred & eighteen and now a citizen of Grayson County Kentucky and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with an Intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and Naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war passed on the 18th day of March one thousand eight hundred and Eighteen and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts of debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the sched ule hereto annexed and by me subscribed One horse worth $60. six head of cattle worth $25 four head of sheep worth $4.00 eight head of hoggs worth $8.00 total amount $97, Jonathan BOZORTH and my occupation a farmer and very ill able to labour for my living and my family consists of myself my wife aged 62 years and one grand daughter aged 9 years and the said Jonathan BOZARTH introduced Edward DEHAVEN and Joseph BEATTY to prove his service in the revolutionary war who after being duly sworn deposeth and saith that is the said DEHAVEN saith that he knows that the said Jonathan BOZORTH served in the 8th Pennsylvania regiment commanded by Col McCOY for the space of three years in the revolutionary war as a listed soldier and Joseph BEATTY states that he knows that the Statements made by Edward DEHAVEN as to BOZORTH being in the 8th regiment Pennsylvania regiment under the command of Col McCOY for the term of three years in the revolutionary war is true as he was in the same regiment at the same time with BOZORTH. This Court do also give it as their opinion that the total amount in value of the property exhibited in the above Schedule is $97 and this court do further State the witnesses introduced by the above named Jonathan BOZORTH to prove his services in the revolutionary war is credible witnesses on oath which is ordered to be certified and this Court do further state that the said BOZORTH is a resident at this time of Grayson County Kentucky which is ordered to be certified == Matthew CUNNINGHAM, Abraham NEIGHBOUR, John DORAN & William STINION, members of the Court. I Jack THOMAS clerk of the Grayson County Court in the state of Kentucky do certify that the above schedule has been admitted to the record of said Court and that the same are truly copies therefrom and that the original claim declaration and the evidence of the claim of the within named Jonathan BOZORTH has been admitted to the record of the said Court and that the above & foregoing are truly copies therefrom, I do further certify that it is the opinion of the said Court that the total amount of the value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule is $97.00 In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court on this 22nd day of September 1823. Jack THOMAS, clerk [seal] of the Grayson County Court in the state of Kentucky State of Kentucky County of Grayson In open court of record held in and for said County on the 23rd day of June 1851 personally appeared Eli BOZORTH aged fifty one years resident in said County who being first duly sworn according to law makes the following Declaration under the act of Congress passed 4th July 1836. This declarant states that he is the lawful child of Jonathan & Mary BOZORTH of Grayson County in the state of Kentucky. That his said Father was a revolutionary pensioner of the United States at the rate of 96$ per annum and that he died on the 14th day of September 1830 leaving a widow who survived him several years and who was the mother of this declarant and whose maiden name was Mary HARGIS, and who died on the Eleventh (11th) day of January in the year Eighteen hundred & thirty nine (1839) This declarant further states that the said Jonathan and Mary BOZORTH were lawfully married (as this declarant believes from what he has heard his said parents say) in the State of Virginia. Declarant states that he has no knowledge of the Existence of any record of said marriage Either public or private, Declarant states that the said Jonathan and Mary lived in lawful wedlock as man & wife from the time of their said marriage up to the period when the said Jonathan died; and that they have two children born as the fruits of their said marriage prior to November 1783 whose names are Elizabeth & Sally BOZORTH. Declarant states that the said Jonathan and Mary moved from the state of Virginia to the state of Kentucky a few years after their said marriage. That the said Mary BOZORTH did not again marry after the death of her said husband, that she died being a widow, and leaving five children only surviving her, whose names are Sally SHAIN, John BOZORTH, Jeremiah BOZORTH, Polly BROWN & Eli BOZORTH. Sworn to and subscribed on this 23rd day of June 1851 Eli BOZORTH Before me B. L. ROGERS Judge County Court State of Kentucky County of Grayson I Edwin THOMAS clerk of the County Court of said County Certify that at a Court of record held in and for said county satisfactory proof was made in open Court that Jonathan BOZORTH late a pensioner of the United States in the County of Grayson in the State of Kentucky at the rate of 96$ per annum died on the 14th day of September 1830 leaving a widow named Mary BOZORTH who did not again marry but died being his widow, that her death occurred on the Eleventh (11th) day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty nine (1839) and that she left five children only Surviving her whos names are Sally SHAW, John BOZORTH, Jeremiah BOZORTH, Polly BROWN & Eli BOZORTH. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the Seal of said court and County this 23rd day of June 1851 Edward THOMAS clerk Grayson County Court Jonathan BOZORTH was Born December the 13th 1754 Mary BOZORTH was Born November the 22nd 1761 Rev. & 1812 Wars Section March 1, 1927 Mrs. H. SHAW Milwaukie, Route #3, Box 184 Oregon Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim R. 1047 it appears that Jonathan BOZORTH was born December 13, 1754 He enlisted in September 1776 as a private in Captain John WILSON's Company, Colonel Aeneas MACKEY'S Pennsylvania Regiment, served three years, was in engagements at Woodbridge, Boundbrook, and in BRODHEAD'S and McINTOSH'S Campaigns against the Indians. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 22, 1823 while a resident of Grayson County, Kentucky. Soldier married in Virginia, date not stated, Mary HARGIS born November 22, 1761. He died September 14, 1830 and his widow Mary died January 11, 1839. Their children were referred to as follows: Elizabeth and Sally both born prior to 1783, John, Jeremiah, William, Mary, and Eli, the last named born about 1800. Their mother was survived by only five children: Sally SHAW, Polly BROWN, John, Jeremiah and Eli BOZORTH. The above noted is the only soldier by that name found on the Revolutionary War records of this Bureau.
