Brann.William.1814.Pendleton.BIO Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffen, 7th ed., Pendleton Co. WILLIAM A. BRANN, a farmer and tobacco dealer at Morgan, Pendleton Co., Ky., was born in that county September 5, 1814, and is a son of Joseph and Anna (Moore) Brann, natives of Virginia, who settled in Pendleton County when young on Crooked Creek. Joseph Brann and Anna Moore were married about 1809 and thirteen children were born to their union--seven daughters and six sons--of whom our subject was the third child. William A. Brann received a common-school education, and has followed farming all of his life; he settled where he now resides in 1884, where he is the owner of 800 acres of land. In 1853, he was elected to the Legislature from Pendleton County, re-elected in 1857 and again elected in 1861. In 1865 he was again a candidate for the same office, but was defeated fraudulently and he contested, and a new election was called which elected him to the office. He has been a magistrate for many years. In 1841 Mr. Brann married Miss Martha Callen, daughter of Jonathan and Mary Callen of Pendleton County, and to their union seven children have been born: John C., Mary C., Margaret, Rebecca, Nancy, James and Martha. Rebecca died in infancy. Mr. Brann has been a member of the Christian Church for about twenty-five years, of which church his wife is also a member. Mr. Brann is a Democrat.
