He was born 17 April 1909 in Lewis County, Washington, the son of Joe L. & Nannie Gilbert Branson. Mr. Branson married the former Ruby Collins in Pineville, KY., on March 13, 1930. She preceded him in death on July 17, 1968. Surviving are five sons, Oscar of Talbot, Ind.; Jake of Knoxville, Tenn.; Herman of Rose Hill, Va.; Junior of San Diego, Calif., serving with the U.S. Navy and Carl of Pineville, KY.; seven daughters, Mrs. Kenny (Wanda) Troutt of Maryville, Tenn.; Mrs. Beulah Barge of Jacksonville, Fla.; Nannie Brnason of Baltimore, Md.; Jeree Perry of Pineville, Ky.; Joyce Saylor of Jacksboro, Tenn.; Mrs. Don (Loretta) Carroll of Tinsley, Ky.; and Mrs. Bill (Jean) Gibson of Pineville, Ky.; 37 grandchildren and 13-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hobert Branson of Williamstown, Ky.; and Denver Branson of Blue Ash, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Vada) Stewart of Barbourville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, one son and one daughter. Mr. Branson was formerly employed as a coal miner and had worked for 27 years in the mines retiring in 1963. He was a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church near Pineville, Ky. and of the United Mine Workers of America. The Brown-Alkire Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and the body was taken to Arnett Funeral Home in Pineville, KY. where arrangements are incomplete at this time. Burial will be at Tad Goodin Cemetery near Pineville, Ky. and services at the Greasy Creek Baptist Church in Pineville.
