"Funeral services for Wade Milburn (Jack) Britt, 21, Glasgow boy, killed in a motor accident Tuesday afternoon on Highway 31-E, north of Scottsville, will be held here to-day, 2:30 p.m., at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Britt, 221West Washington Street, the Rev. Sam Ed Bradley in charge. The burial will be in the cemetery at this place. "Young Britt was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon while en route from Scottsville to his home here, when his car, a 1940 Chevrolet sedan, collided with a log truck owned and driven by Mr. Hillus Petty, of Allen county. The accident occurred at five o'clock. "Young Britt was rounding a curve near the Twin Oaks Camp, four miles north of Scottsville, when the right rear tire on his car blew out, causing him to lose control of the machine, which swerved across the road into the path of the oncoming truck. "The truck was headed south and struck young Britt's car broadside after the driver had pulled off side of road into a ditch in an attempt to avoid the accident. Young Britt was killed instantly, and thrown some ten feet clear of the wreckage. He suffered a broken neck and internal injuries. Mr. Petty and his son, occupants of the truck, escaped with only a few minor cuts and bruises. "Mr. Britt had been attending livestock sales at Scottsville, and talked by phone to his brother here a few minutes before the accident. He had been engaged in the livestock business at Glasgow, Bowling Green, Tompkinsville, Scottsville and Gallatin, Tenn., for the past four years. He was employed on the various markets as clerk for some time, but more recently developed into a buyer. "For the past year he has bought livestock for Edwards & Son, of Bowling Green, and numerous other dealers in addition to speculating for himself. Although young in years and experience, he was generally recognized as [a] most excellent judge of livestock. "Born July 23 1919, in the Stovall Crossing section of Barren county, he had spent most of his life in Glasgow. He attended the Glasgow city schools, and graduated from High School in the class of 1938 with high honors. Since that time he had engaged in trucking and livestock buying. "No more popular young man ever lived in Glasgow than "Jack" Britt as he was familiarly known. "His father, Mr. Grover Britt, served as deputy sheriff of Barren county, and later was [a] member of the city police force; his mother was a popular clerk at Lerham Bros.' store here for several years. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Haiden Jenks Britt, of this city. The family has the sympathy of the community intheir loss."
