Deed Bk A, p 35, 36 This Indenture made this twenty sixth day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety four between James BROWN and Mary his wife of Hardin County and State of Kentucky of the one part and Thomas HARGIS of said County and State afforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said James BROWN and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty pounds current Money to them in hand paid the receipt whereof the said James BROWN and Mary his wife do acknowledge have given granted Bargained sold and confirmed unto the said Thomas HARGIS a certain tract or parcel of land Containing two Hundred acres situate lying and being in Hardin County on the south side of the Roling fork part of Eli GARRODS Settlement and bounded as followeth towit. Beginning at a Hickory and Beech on the Bank of said fork Corner to Peter PORTMESSESS Land running thence south thirteen degrees west one hundred and ninety two poles ___ Hickory and Beech in the old line thence with the old line south fo rty five degrees East two hundred poles to three Buckeye trees thence north forty five degtees East ninety two poles to a Box elder Buckeye and Elm thence north twenty degrees west one hundred and twenty poles to Hickory Walnut and two ash trees thence down the river with the meanders thereof to the Beginning. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land two hundred acres of land with appurtenances unto the said Thomas HARGIS his Heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Thomas HARGIS his Heirs and assigns for Ever and the said James BROWN and Mary his wife for themselves and their Heirs do Covenant and agree to and with the said Thomas HARGIS that they the said James BROWN and Mary his wife the aforesaid two hundred acres of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Thomas HARGIS his Heirs and assigns against the claims of all persons whatsoever will warrant and forever defend in witness whereof the said James BROWN and Mary his wife have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day and year first above written James BROWN [seal] Mary BROWN [seal] At a Court held for Hardin County on Tuesday the twenty sixth of August Seventeen hundred and ninety four The preceding deed was acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.
