Brown July 30, 1853 - Hopkins County KyArchives Biography Author: Genealogy and Biography Volume IV, Battle-Perrin-Kniffin, 3rd ed. 1886 SIDNEY F. BROWN was born in Hopkins County, Ky., July 30, 1853, and is the youngest of eleven children born to William P. and Mary E. (Bourland) Brown, the former a native of the "Old Dominion," the latter of Kentucky and of Irish and English descent, respectively. William P. brown, at the age of twelve years, in 1816, came with his parents to what was then Hopkins, now Webster County, then an almost unbroken wilderness. Here his father, William Brown, bought a large tract of military land in what is now the south part of Webster County, erected a log-cabin and subsequently improved a farm. William P. Brown was married soon after attaining his majority. He then bought wild land some three miles east of Madisonville, where he afterward improved a farm and engaged in farming until his death in February, 1883, in his seventy-ninth year. He and his wife are members of the Missionary Baptist Church. Sidney F., after his mother's death, which occurred when he was only twelve years old, lived with his brother, Robert H., until he attained his majority. During this time he attended and taught school during the winter seasons. He then bought a part of the old homestead, where he followed farming and the stock business until 1882; he then came to Madisonville, where he opened the only agricultural implement store that has ever been in the town, and is doing a thriving trade. He handles all kinds of implements from threshing machines down, And carries a stock of about $4,000 or $5,000. His average annual sales amount to be about $15,000. He was married October 12, 1874, to Miss Aggie B. Fugate, a native of Hopkins County, Ky. Five children have blessed this union, four of whom - two sons and two daughters are living. Mr. and Mrs. Brown are members of the Christian Church. He is a member of the K. of H. In politics he is a Democrat.
