Bryan, well known Glasgow merchant, died at her home on West Street Wednesday, Feb 7 (1940), at 10 p.m. She had been in ill health the past few years. "She was a member of one of the leading pioneer families of this section of of Kentucky and was the last surviving member of her immediately [sic] family. Her husband was a kinsman of William Jennings Bryan, the "Great Commoner." "Surviving are three sons, Messrs Robert Bryan and Barrick Bryan, of Glasgow; Lewis Bryan, of Mobile, Ala., and two grandchildren, Miss Jane Bryan, of Mobile, Ala., and James Bryan, Glasgow. "The funeral was held at the Bryan home here Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, with Rev. J. A. Gaines, pastor of the Glasgow Baptist Church in charge of services. Burial was in the Glasgow cemetery. "A daughter of the late Mr. James Russell Barrick and Mrs. Lou Ann Moss Barrick, she was born August 4, 1854, and spent almost her entire life in Glasgow. She married Mr. Bryan on February 4, 1876. Mrs. Bryan was a devout member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, and was one of the most consecrated and most saintly women this community ever knew. All her life she was active in church work and gave of her time to this work. "Mrs. Bryan had seen Glasgow grown from a mere village to a thriving little city. In her more active years she devoted the biggest portion of her time to her church, home and civic entertainment. "Gentle, kind and affectionate, Mrs. Bryan went through the years doing good, helping others and retaining faith in the Lord. It can be truly said that when she departed a saintly woman and godly character had gone to her reward."
