CARNES DIES IN GREENWOOD, IND." Private advices from Drs. Henry and Will Carnes, who are in Greewoon, Ind., their old home, where their father, Dr. Z. Carnes, died Monday last, indicate that they will be home the latter part of the week. Dr. Carnes was one of the oldest and most prominent physicians of Johnson county, Indiana. He had visited his two sons in Atlanta often and on these visits made many friends. "Dr. Zachariah Carnes died at his death and who will sympathize with Drs. will and Henry Carnes. The Indianapolis Star of Tuesday printed an excellent picture of Dr. Carnes, saying: "Dr. Zachariah Carnes died at his home in Greenwood early yesterday morning. He was past seventy years old and was among the oldest medical practitioners of Johnson county, and a few years ago was president of the medical society of that county. He was also a member of the State Medical Society. "He was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, within a few miles of Lincoln's birthplace, and was living there at the beginning of the civil war. He enlisted in a Kentucky regiment and served until the close of the war. After that he took up the study of medicine and was graduated withhigh honors from the Louisville Medical College. "In 1877 he removed to Greenwood and continued to live there until his death. He was always active in local affairs, having served as school trustee for many years, and for more than twenty years was the local surgeon of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the Greenwood Masonic order and the Grand Army of the Republic. He was one of the founders and trustees of the cemetery in which he will be buried tomorrow morning at Greenwood. He was not only prominent in his profession, but was noted throughout his community for his practical philanthropy, particularly among those who were destitute and ill. "He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eliza Polk Carnes; his two sons, Dr. Henry G. Carnes and Dr. Will E. Carnes of Atlanta, Ga., and by his daughter Mrs. Theophilus J. Moll, of Indianapolis, besides five grandchildren and several brothers and sisters. His sons have arrived from Atlanta to attend the funeral."
