A. WICKLIFFE H. R. Arrears to 4th of March 1829 $25.05 Revolutionary Claim Acts March 18, 1818 and May 1, 1820 State of Kentucky Monday Sept 24th 1827 Nelson Circuit Sct September term 1827 Ordered that the following Declaration schedules ___ be entered of record towit. State of Kentucky Nelson Circuit Court September term 1827. This day ---- Barnabas CARTER a citizen of Nelson County and State of Kentucky personally came into open court being a court of record and upon his oath makes the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions of the several acts of Congress granting pensions to the soldiers of the revolution who are in indigent circumstances. He states that he has been a resident citizen of the State of Kentucky for twenty years and citizen of the U. States ever since the treaty of peace. That upon the day of in the year he enlisted as a regular soldier in the service of the United States that he was enlisted by a Captain HARRISON and was attached to the Company of Captain MOORE in the 13th Virginia Regiment on the Continental line Commanded by Col. RUSSELL. That on the day of he was transferred to the 9 Virginia Regiment in Continental establishment. That he served from the time of his enlistment - four years until he was regularly discharged at Fort Pitt at or about the Conclusion of peace. That he had his discharge which was consumed by fire some years ago when his house was burned. He was in the engagements with the enemy at the Battle of Brandywine Germantown and Wilmington and served his Country faithfully. He states that some years ago he made application for a pension and his papers were certified by the judge of the Nelson circuit Court and were sent on By the Honible Benjn HARRISON and since which he has not heard what has been done nor has he received any answer. -- He states that He is poor that his age is seventy one years his family consists of a wife and three children. He is unable to labour and that all his estate consists in the following articles annexed to this petition as a schedule. That he has not sold or disposed o f any real estate real or personal in order to enable him to obtain a pension. Nor does any person hold in trust for him any property. A schedule of the estate of Barnabas CARTER sworn to and Valued in open court by the judge of said Court. He purchased some years ago 100 acres of poor land from a man by the name of GLASSCOCK for which he has not paid. If paid for is worth $30.00 one cow 6.00 seven head of hogs 4.00 one horse which is worth 2.50 The foregoing facts stated by said CARTER as to his enlistment we Nicholas CARTER and John DEFEVER citizens of Kentucky know to be true. He further states that he served the length of time stated in his petition. And we saw him on the day of the battle of Brandywine. and one of us saw him on the day of the battle of Germantown, and we believe he was in both battles. Nelson Circuit Sct. BELL Mount Carmel Illinois Recorded on Roll of Pensioners under ___ Page 192 Vol A 5th Febry 1853 State of Illinois County of Edward On this twenty first day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty three personally appeared before the undersigned sole Judge of the Circuit Court in and for the County and State aforesaid, Rebecca CARTER aged seventy two years who being duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the act of Congress passed the third day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifty three. That she is the widow of Barnabas CARTER who was a Revolutionary Pensioner under the act of 18th March 1818 at the rate of Ninety six Dollars per annum and who was formerly a resident of Nelson County State of Kentucky and that the agency at which the said Barnabas VARTER was paid was located at Bardstown in the said State of Kentucky as she believes. She further declares that she was married to the said Barnabas CARTER on the fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Thirteen, that her husband the aforesaid Barnabas CARTER died on the day of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty one and that she was married to him at the time above stated. She further swears that she was a widow at the passage of the act first aforesaid, and is still a widow and that she has never before made application for a pension Witness Rebecca [X] CARTER Walter S. Darwin ELLIOTT Clerk Declaration for Bounty Land, by a Widow, under the act of Congress, of March 3d 1855 State of Illinois Sct County of Edward On this Twelfth day of April 1855, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Rebecca CARTER aged Seventy four years, a resident of the county of Wabash and State of Illinois who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Barnabas CARTER deceased, who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain MOORE in the regiment commanded by Colonel RUSSELL of the 13th Virginia Regiment on Continental Establishment, during the revolutionary war. He was transferred to the 9th Virginia regiment, served four years in all, and was discharged at Fort Pitt about the year 1783. He applied for a pension under the act of March 18, 1818 from Kentucky, and was upon the Pension roll of that state for $95 per annum. See his Declaration and papers on file. That her said husband volunteered or enlisted at on or about the day of 1779 for the term of five years, and continued in actual service in the said war for the term of four years and was honorably discharged at Fort Pitt Pennsylvania on the day of 1783 She also applied for and obtained a pension as the widow of Barnabas CARTER under the act of February 3, 1853, for $95 per annum, commencing February 3 1853 Numbered 1862, to which she refers for evidence. She further states that she was married to the said Barnabas CARTER in the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky on or about the 15th day of October A. D. 1813, by one William DOWNS who was the minister of the Gospel; and that her name before her said marriage was Rebecca DAVIS; that her said husband died in the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky on or about the 24th day of August, A. D. 1841; and that she is now a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which she is entitled under the act of Congress approved March 3, 1855,\; and declares that she has never received a Land Warrant on account of the services of her said husband under this or any other act of Congress. And finally she hereby constitutes and appoints Richard M. YOUNG, of Washington City, her attorney to prosecute her said claim to bounty land, and to receive her warrant therefore, when ready for delivery. She refers to the Declaration of Barnabas CARTER above mentioned and her own Declaration for proof of the facts stated in this Declaration.
