"REV. JAMES CHENAULT DIES. Baptist Minister, Old Confederate Soldier and Prominent Mason. Another faithful servant of God has been taken to the bosom of his Master, whom he served so long, so faithfully and so unselfishly. He was faithful to the end and a man who spent the most of his life laboring for the Master's cause has finished his work and gone to his reward. Rev. J. T. Chenault, famous as a Baptist preacher, an old confederate soldier, and a member of the Masonic order, passed from earth to heaven last Saturday afternoon. "He had long been a sufferer from heart trouble and his death was not unexpected. Although seventy-three years of age, he was an active man and retained his mental activities to the very last. When a young man he was with Bennett Young in that famous St. Albans Raid, after that he rode with Morgan in the Confederate Army and was considered a brave, fearless and valiant soldier. "Soon after the war he was called into the ministry. "When this call came, he laid aside his worldly garments and put on clothes of righteousness. He spent practically his entire life in Barren county and to-day there are numbers of people in the Kingdom who wee converted by his gospel messages. "He was a prominent Mason and was most influential both as a citizen and as a preacher. "He married Miss Melissa Peden and she with two daughters survive him: Mrs. Ed Winn, of Louisville, and Mrs. Will Depp, of Warren county. "The remains were brought to Glasgow, Monday, and interred in the Glasgow cemetery by the Masons and the old soldiers. "A man who fought the battles of life, both for his country and for his God, courageously, unceasingly, and humbly, has been gathered unto his fathers to await the resurrection morn."
