Clark May 14, 1851 - unknown Hart County KyArchives Biography Author: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd Edition JOHN H. CLARK, M.D., was born May 14, 1851, in Hart County, on Bacon Creek; he is the fourth of three sons and two daughters born to John and Mary L. (Palmer) Clark, natives of Connecticut and Virginia, respectively. John Clark was a farmer; immigrated to Hart County, Ky., about 1845, and here drove stage for a number of years; his first wife died September 30, 1865; he then married a daughter of James Dawson, Mary L. Dawson, by whom one daughter was born. John Clark died May 1, 1874, aged fifty-nine; he was a son of Samuel Clark, of Connecticut. Mrs. Mary L. Clark was a daughter of Legrande Palmer, of Virginia, who was a moderate farmer and slave holder. Dr. John H. Clark was reared on a farm, but by self-application acquired a good English education. At twenty-two he was elected constable, and while he carried on the farm at the same time put in every spare moment at the study of medicine with Dr. W. H. Gett, at Rowlett's Station. In the winter of 1877-78 he attended lectures at Louisville University, after which he located where he now resides, in Bonnieville, where he has since been successfully engaged in his practice, and is also carrying on a farm; he was married, September 25, 1883, to Mattie L. Wright, of Hart County, a daughter of William T. and Mary (Hodges) Wright, natives of Hart County, Ky., and Tennessee, respectively. One child blesses this union, Lottie L. The Doctor cast his first presidential vote for Tilden, but has since affiliated with the Republicans.
